I just bought a refurbished Studio 15. Is there anything that anyone of you recommend me doing? I already did a burn in test with "BurnInTest". Actually, everything passed except the DVD drive. I'm going to retest it tonight to see if it fails again. I already ran the battery down to 5%, then charged it back up. Is there anything else I need or should do? This is my first new laptop in 5 years, I want this one to last. Thank you.

Do whatever you feel you need to...

For me when I get a new laptop the first thing I do is format it and throw on a clean Vista x64 install. Then I install my apps and go to town.

Thanks guys. I'm going to do the clean install.

I redid the burn in test, and the DVD/CD drive failed again. What does that mean, and what should I do?

What message did it give for failure? Does your optical drive not work?

Would I lose any functions after the clean install?

No you won't lose any functions. You will need to have the proper drivers upon reinstall however.

You should have received the Restore DVD. This is just the Vista install DVD.
