It seems that dell will offer its new latitude line of computers at 29 March. The 15.4" widescreen latitude 820 seem to weigh 2.6 kg and be 1.29" thick. Fingerprint reader will also be offered. The design seemed quite similar to apple macbook pro (not to blame for accepting a nice design :) ). Unfortunately, only the nvidia quadro mvs will be offered (dissapointing). Seems that they have some new innovative stuff related to wireless connection and batery life.

Wow the D810 is 1.67" now, at 1.29" thick it'll be as thin as the original D600/I600 which is pretty good. The new design is nice too along with the much needed improvements in the security department.

And a starting weight of about 5.73lbs for the D820??? is very nice.

I take it the D620 is featured above, wonder if it's thinner than the D820. Also the speakers on the D820 seem to be on the side of the keyboard, where are they on the D620? And call me crazy but is that a slot loading drive on the "D620"??? If it is, that's hot!!!

Any information about the D420/X1 hybrid I read about months ago?

there wasnt too much information about d420. but it will be released :)
D620 is lighter. It weighs 2.2 kg (4.84 lbs). I am quite excited about this new latitudes. Only dissapointing point is the graphics card. I dont understand, why do they have to put such a lousy nvidia card (probably for the sake of battery life). It is no gaming card. A graphics card designed for office applications :) http://www.nvidia.com/page/quadronvs_notebook.html
The polished magnesium alloy case seems really cool. I may buy one of these latitudes if the price is 400$ (at most of course) higher than an equally configured inspiron.

A NVS 110M is the exact same chip (down to the PCI-ID) as a GeForce 7300 Go. NVS 120M is the same chip as the 7400 Go. Presumably since the 120M is unannounced, and Dell didn't mention what card they're using, its going to be a 120M.

It's almost like arguing who gets to tell the public first. They make the product known through the webcast, anybody can go but you can't talk about it? It just sounds silly to me.

I was in a meeting between 7am-1pm. Some of us would still like the info but can't always make a specific time. I think Dell replays them on their website. I'll have to try to find that.

Can anyone say whether they are still providing both a trackpoint and touchpad? Also, are they component compatible with their prior models - you know, AC adapters, batteries, etc.?

Thanks mojoxp. That is indeed good news because I've already got some components for a D610 (docking station, extra battery, AC adapters) and so far I really like the specs of the D620.

Great news, pity I missed the picture...

Anyway, the D820 is surprisingly light. The new Precision with better GFX than the D820 will be a nice portable gaming machine.

I want some more info on the D420 though. Hoepfully they will keep the faster processors of the D410 line rather then cutting right back to the ULV processors of the X1.

There hasn't been much talk of the D420 as its refresh is going to be later (June-July) from what I've heard.

Quick question, do you think that means they ship then or just order then? If its another month to get the thing, it would be hard to wait. Inspirons same timeframe or earlier?

I actually wonder, what would be price difference for a D820 and T60P? I am expecting a price difference of 500 to 700$. But this is pure speculation derived from my ealier experiences :)

Hmm, bumping the weight of the D610 down makes it very tempting.

But if a d410 refresh had something other than that god aweful 1024 screen, i'd get it...

I listened to the show till it went haywire. They had some sort of technical issues when they got to slide 16 in their powerpoint presentation. Some guy came on and just went over all the specs and details of the 620 and 820.

I was very impressed with some of the features and offerings. It was very thorough and very informative. I think it will make the Lattitude line much more impressive than it is right now.

I was considering getting a Thinkpad T60, but now I think I might go for the D620. There are some things about it that I think will make it a really nice laptop. I really like the form factor, weight, components, and security options. It still remains to be seen what LCD will be used - but I'm betting it will be first class.

Arrrr! The D620 was really solid looking. Good presentation. Nice form factor. Serious T60 competitor. But my T60 is getting here today :) !!
Little chance that the keyboard and trackpoint combo will be comparable on the D620 though, and there's no info on release or pricing. So I'll prob keep the T60, esp after opening the box!
    Oh well :)
I'll post a 'review' of sorts later.

I held off ordering a T60 because I knew the D620 was coming pretty quick. Don't really want a 15" T60 and I've got a T43p 14". Prefer the widescreen and if the D620 lives up to the hype... we'll see.

laptopmag.com reported today that the D620 will cost $1905. I had to do a double take because I was waiting for the D620, now I might have to get the 630m instead.

Is $1905 a reasonable price for the D620?

did you ever get anything from Dell with the "list price" ? I assume that it will be 200 $ less than that price with the usual dell rebates.

I did a few comparisons; the HP dv1000t with similar specifications came in with a $1600 (with three year warranty). A similarly configured D610 (obviously minus the processor) came in at $1100 (three year warranty) with my school discount. However, even with the $200 rebate, the D620 would be over $1700--with or without a three year warranty.

Again, I'm only asking if a starting price of $1900 (or $1700, take your pick) is reasonable compared to what the competition is offering.

Just a quick question to irfan: why do you put the dollar sign after the dollar amount? I just noticed that and became curious after I placed all my dollar signs (six to be exact) before the dollar amount.

I want my writing to obey my speech :) I wouldnt say "dollars 500" when I speak, would I? I would say "500 dollars"

I beleive that the above comparison is not fair. Lattitude line is for business users. A fair comparison should have compare a d620 to one of the HP's n series notebooks.

Also take into consideration that the model evaluated is not the base model, but with upgraded components. I am very sure the base model will not be in the $1900 range. Then realize that DELL will charge more for these models out of the gate as they always do... eventually, the price will come down to more competitive range, esp. when those coupons start to stick... :)

Humm, now I'm confused... According to Wikipedia it'll have the Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 950.

"The Latitude D620 weighs in at 4.7 pounds, and includes a 1.67GHz Intel Core Duo T2300 processor (667MHz front-side-bus) and 2M of L2 cache. It comes with 512M of RAM, expandable to 4G, four USB ports. For graphics, it offers the Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 950."

Someone there has a contact in Dell it seems! ;)

Is the Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 950 anything to get excited about, or is it just an average at best graphics set?
