I just noticed that the Inspiron 1520 is now availible with a 1.4GHz Pentium Dual-Core and the Vostro 1500 is now availible with a 1.4GHz Core 2 Duo. I was just wondering what everyone thinks of these new base options?
-
lol Sounds like they are on a shortage of the newest parts and are resorting to some rather lack luster options.
That or they're trying to appeal to the audience that is rather low income or plain stupid or die-hard Pentium fans.
Who knows.. -
Not everyone needs a high-end processor. Those options are great for the majority of people who aren't gamers, programmers, or photo/video editors.
-
?
What do I think? Uh... they're crap. Honestly.
The T5470 or T5450 is the lowest you really want to go... They're technically already outdated as they don't even support Intel VT (basically Intel's form of 64bit support), so don't be expecting to upgrade to a 64bit OS with 4GB RAM without a full CPU upgrade to at least the T7XXX line of processors.
That said, can you even upgrade the CPU within the Vostro and the Inspirons? -
I think you are mixing virtualization (VT) with x86-64 there buddy.
T5470 is 64bit but doesn't have virtualization technology built in, that means you can't run 2 OS at the same time without significant performance loss. -
LOL, yea I know theres that people that just surf and check the mail but common, even when that's all I did I still wanted the latest and greatest
.
Yeah the CPU's can be upgraded, exactly like a desktop. just a different way of getting it out (you turn a screw instead of lift a little rod/latch). I yanked my CPU out of my 1520 all the time for kicks. I put on some better thermal paste because I think they shove crappie stuff in the factories. -
I guess they're trying to make some profit IMO.
-
I hav a 1.6ghz core 2 duo, $hits pretty gd upgrade from the desktop Amd 3000+
I'll wait for the quad cores to come down in price before i upgrade! -
I have the 1.6 Core 2 Duo and it is way faster than my AMD Athlon 3200 in my desktop. I think it is very snappy for what I do on my machine.... alot of web surfing and some light applications/gaming
-
The T5470 works fine in my Vostro 1500; 2gb RAM, 8600M GT gpu, absolutely no problems at all gaming. I have a 7300 C2D in my D630, and yes, it's noticably faster, but no way I'd term the cpu in my Vostro as a "weakness." AAMOF, my opinion is that no one "needs" anything higher than a 7300 with 4mb cache, especially with the horrendous upcharges for marginal increases in cpu performance. YMMV.
-
The deal would be sweeter if there was a way to overclock it or under clock it (depending on the situation). But it's a shame Dell locked us out with their BIOS.
-
be careful from what most reviews and what intel told me the pentium dual cores can use a totaly different chipset than the core 2 duos since they run at 533fsb.. my wife bought a toshiba and we brought it back the same day after finding out that she could not upgrade to a core 2 cpu she could only go to a 667mhz fsb NOT a 800 one... just make sure you either find out ahead of time for sure or beware
imo the pentium dual core is a dog compared to the core 2 duos are -

Only the T5x50 processors are OEM ones and can be obtainted either from DELL or from ebay... -
Ohhh... Okay. But I don't want to downgrade from T5470 to a T5450 anyways, haha
.
But... Wow, those CPU's are pricey... If I wanted a T7300, I could've gotten it as an upgrade for 200 bucks more (which is, IMO, still a rip off) :/. Time to play the "wait for a price drop" game...
Just a quick question--those WILL fit into a Vostro 1500/Inspiron 1520 mobo's that came equiped with a T5XXX CPU's, right? -
Yeah it should be able to.... And yes DELL charges a lot for their processor upgrades while ordering for laptops
-
-
Actually for the new Inspiron, Vostro and XPS lines they use either of the two chipsets 965 GM or 965 PM and hence two different mobos... The former for the integrated graphics solution and the latter for a discrete graphics card...
-
if wanted to upgrade to say a t7500, it would have cost me over $400!! insane ill just upgrade l8er

Jayayess1190 Waiting on Intel Cannonlake

The 965 chipsets use socket P processors, so just make sure you get one of those and NOT socket M (different pin layout)....

T7700 was sold @$255 in ebay(ebay item:130156883292).
-
It's the T2310, and here are it's specs from Intel's website:
http://www.intel.com/products/processor_number/chart/pentium_dual-core.htm
I guess it's Merom core, since it has 64-bit support. -
-
Even a bare no-box T770 is going for 255 with 11 bids, and there's still 1 day and 8 hours to go (as of this post). Link Here.
-
you just bought the older meron platform...
and does it really matter?
the ram will still run at 667mhz even if you are using an 800fsb cpu....
EDIT: uh, i believe the t5470 is santa rosa... it supports 800mhz fsb -
Running DRAM at 667 Mhz and the Effective CPU FSB at 667 Mhz is not a 1:1 ratio at all...

T7500 closed @$75
(ebay item:300152905651)
-
I will be buying my 7500 soon

Ah, okay, my bad.
I didn't know they were two different things.
