    great review.

It seems like the DVD slot loading drive is really loud, and so is everything else on the laptop, lol.

How much did you sell it on ebay btw? Just to see if it's better to cancel or to put it there.

That is awesome - helps me to decide if I should get this or the G1s.

Oh and, HK Dell only offers CCFL displays and no LEDs - what should I do? Go ahead and order a CCFL? I've seen comparison pics and the difference is quite significant. :/ Would I have to order from somewhere else? Sigh.

Sweet review on the M1330. And I could see the bowing of the keyboard from the pictures. Curious to know if anyone else has the same issue?

Have you tried calling Dell Sales and seeing if they can offer the LED option over the phone?

Jesus that drive is freaking loud... My worry won't be the Windows startup sound anymore (muted), it'll be the drive spin up...

It's beyond loud... it sounds like it's dying and begging for a second chance at life. Wow... it's so annoying. Thank goodness I didn't get it.

    change your boot sequence from:

    1 cd-rom
    2 hard drive

    to

    1 hard drive
    2 none

Yeah, when you boot up, press f2 (For me at least) Then from the BIOS go to boot order. And then just put the CD drive all the way at the bottom. Then it'll skip the CD drive when it's looking for an OS to boot from.

If you ever need to use the drive to boot from a CD just press f2 while it's booting again, move the CD drive to the top, and it'll check the drive for an OS when it restarts.

On a side note, putting the internal hard drive at the top of the boot order decreases boot times! =D

I can confirm the drive is louder than the average drive for sure when you load a disk in, it's kind of annoying I suppose, but unless you're a monk living in a monastery (and I know no one here is), does it really matter that much? I can't see how it'd be a deal killer.

With everything else this laptop brings to the table, if that is a deal breaker, you are missing out.

The thing I'm most worried about is booting it up in class... I don't feel like having 50 people turn to see my embarrassed face because my optical drive sounds like it's ripping a disc to shreds.

Yes. I do agree. The fan on my HP laptop is really really loud and it's embarassing that everyone can hear it. Hopefully Dell will find a quieter solution in the near future.

Disabling the drive in bios at boot is an elegant solution to the problem. Loading discs in during normal use is a bit loud, sure, but I remember the older Macbooks having a similar noise character on their slot loading drive - it's been addressed on the newer Macs thankfully.

What concerns me more is the fan noise. It's hard to get a sense of it from the video review but it really does sound loud. Any chance someone can compare the fan noise from the XPS to something testable, like a case fan or existing power supply fan?
