Hi all- Glad to be here, this site has been very helpful the past 2 weeks.

I just ordered a Studio 15 for my girlfriend, nothing too special, 8100 chip with the standard video card. I just had a better feeling abut this than the inspiron. Plus the backlit keyboard and slot drive were good options. It wasnt that cheap thru dell, around 1200 with the 2008 Norton installed, but the guy actually threw in this funky smart card camcorder worth 110 bucks that was a pleasant surprise.

my point is that i was looking at the latest consumer reports from june, whether you like their reviews or not is up to you.. but for all the dell speaker complainers... NONE of the 15" Laptops get good speaker ratings... HP, toshiba and apple are average at best, and only the macbookpro 17 gets a good speaker rating.

so i understand your frustration with the studio speakers, but it's not like it's that much better from another company. maybe toshiba, but that high glass finish and mouse pad are terrible.

    anyway, thanks to everyone here

You should try the XPS speakers, i hear they are the best.

    ... in opposite land

HP's use Altec Lansing speakers and Toshiba usually has flashy looking speakers.
