i just had my motherboard replace coz not getting any display and the tech support was trying to convince me that is not the issue with the 8600gt on my m1530 cuz im not getting any vertical lines.

furthermore, they told me (which i called 2 other tech rep to confirm this, which added up total of 3) that dell has asked dell to make them new non-defective 3d card on new material.

my questions are, where's the proof? if this is true why i dont see dell promoting it?

folks, what do you hear regarding this matter?

you mean, dell has asked nvidia?

who even knows what's going on, at least they extended the Depot warranty on that issue for another year...

......... i dont know what to believe XD hahah anyway if u can get GPU-Z and tell me ur gpu revision..... i got mobo replaced on december... temps were fine... had to apply arctic silver... now freaking happy with my temps... dell pads seem to last 2-3 months... the are supposed to be fixed since october 2008..... i was thinking about starting a thread.... asking people who got their system or got mobo replaced after or on october 2008 and got the problematic gpu after that.... to post it... but i havent hear more people with dying gpus... since august....

i guess u meant.... dell asked nvidia.... not that dell asked dell to ask dell that dell..... XD

if u can provide ur gpu rev... i got rev a2... dont know if it is or not defective.. but working fine with overclocking.... theres some people claiming that rev 3 and 4 are not faulty... still they hace no proof or documentation of this..

how to do determine it's revision A02?
this is what i found on the top of my chip

    U808C877
    0834A2
    S TAIWAN
    PA0906.01W

is this good enuff to tell which revision it is? cuz as far as i can remember, the tag on the packaging for this motherboard(which the gpu is on it) clearly stated that it's a A01.

im finding that the new 8400gs they put in by mistake wont go above 69C, so i think they have pretty much fixed all this overheating issues, but still, i dont know if the 8600 will go up to the 80s

this cards runs hot, my 8600m gt wouldnt go up 75 either.... when got mobo replaced..... but since dell pads are not made for this "XTREME PERFORMANCE SYSTEMS" and this pads wear out in two months, with normal gaming and use... temps will keep raising with time like it happened to u and to me XD... anyway 8600m gt is a way faster card with more memory clocks and voltage, has to run hotter... but for godsake.... 100 c? boiling water machine? i would say apply arctic silver and find the revision on ur card... this thing should be fixed.... again i would like to know when did u get replacement and ur system..... anything after october should be fixed... but i still dont know of any failure after that date... replacements or new system.... so...

and koer when are u getting ur 8600m gt again? or gonna stick with the cool for 2 months 8400? XD

well, for every motherboard replacement they are not going to supply the customer with thermal paste, too bad im not artic silver is not available at where i live, i just have to live with coolermaster nanafusion, but the new card i got right now just raised the gaming temp up to 82 celcius degree, u think this is normal ? and worse still, we are not suppose to touch any of the chip on the motherboard, but b4 the engineer replace my motherboard, i sorta get it out of the box and package myself and laid my eye on the new motherboard, i can see fingerprint on the nvidia chip, u can say im being paranoia, but this doesnt make me comfortable, im thinking either im getting the refurbs part or the nvidia has been damaged....

My XPS m1530 says "Unknown Architecture". It has an 8600mGT and I got it in September or October.

Right now it is at 62C.

I have 6 tabs open with Opera, Vista Style Builder, Spotify, Adobe Photoshop with maybe 10+ canvases open, 7 Windows Explorer open, Notepad, Winrar, and IE open.

    Is the temperature reasonable?

    yep thats normal :D

GOD save me! i wouldnt stick to that card even if you put a shotgun barrel up my nose, No way!

just got my motherboard replaced *again* this time its the 8600gt allright, and i just applied AS5 waiting on idle temps for it to settle for a couple of hours before i stress test this baby, and yeah i know those pads are crud, i mean common, even a piece of bubble gum is more effective than those pads lol.

il post those temps when i start the torture tests MUAHAHAHAHAHHA!!!

note: my MB says it was manufactured on December 08, so it should be good :D

Would replacing the pads yield more like a 6-12 month effective usage period? For the average joe, it is a bit much, but it may be a useful upgrade.

hmmm i have to say i expected better temps, the temperatures from the new mobo are exactly the same as the ones from my old mobo, ahhhhhh!!!! i hate these cheap heatsinks, might aswell buy a copper one from ebay and save me a call to dell lol

well at least they did replace my matsua drive for a new TEAC! and its running nicely, it no longer struggles to read stuff, VERY good drive, and im gonna get a palmrest replacement tomorrow because my touchpad went kamikaze, and my screen no longer turns green when loading games HA! take that NVIDIA!

even if they have proof that the gpu is no longer defect, but they cant guarantee that the motherboard would not fail.

really need help here, i just had my motherboard replaced twice in just 2 months, and dell engineer gonan come to my place tomorrow to replace my motherboard for the 3rd time in 2 months time.

it seems tat there's no display on my LCD, however, if i were to connect my lappy to an external lcd display, i can see everything in my lappy, i can even play games on it. Previously the engineer came, he swap my laptop with new lcd and new cable, and my laptop was not able to display anything, and after the engineer replace my motherboard, pooh, my old lcd is on(in the end i just got the motherboard replacement and i ask dell engineer to take back the new lcd screen and its new cable).

but the same thing happened to me this morning, same symptoms, so i would like to ask all the folks here, what is actually causing all these?

    thx dudes.

Just was looking at GPUZ for my new drivers and saw it gave some revision/date information. May be useful in finding what cards or replacements are used, refreshes, etc.

using GPUz isnt of much help, it always display revision A02 for the 3dcard, however, for my case, i think the problem lies within the socket on the motherboard which connects a connector to the LCD.

the engineering swapped new LCD and new connector and still no display, and after he switch to the new motherboard, poh, something is diaplayed on the screen.

my old motherboard has revision A01, and i got an A02 for replacement, just 4 days after my last replacement, i'll keep u guys posted if got any problem.

the mobo im using rite now is my 4th motherboard, i had 3 replacements before, the 4th mobo is A02, the 3rd is A01, the rest i have no idea.
