The new Nvidia Forceware drivers are out.

Only made some preliminary tests so far but I experience this driver to be more stable in games with fewer fps-drops when playing Witcher and NFS ProStreet
(much more stable than 169.04 and some difference to 169.28).
GPU: Geforce Go 8600M GT 256MB DDR3
Nvidia v169.28
3dMark06 results with 583/853: 5212
Max GPU-temp during test: 76
Nvidia v171.16
3dMark06 results with 583/853: 5255
Max GPU-temp during test: 74

So there you have my two cents regarding the new driver.
Can add more info later on if there is demand for it.
Anyone else tried it?

Well what about it's effectiveness on the games like Crysis etc?
2-3more fps? -
hmmm... you find the 169.04 drivers unstable?
-
Nice. They caught these before about anybody else, and thank you for the tip.
Downloading for the 8400
Oh btw, these are WAY beta. +1 for lindstroem, but be wary if you aren't accustomed to running zeroday drivers. -
Umm how did you get the overclocks to stick? I put the clocks and closed rivatuner. Played CoD4 and when I ran rivatuner again, the clocks had reset to the normal settings.
-
Injek, did not collect average fps with 169.04 and 169.28 so I cant compare.
X2P, My notebook froze up when I played Witcher and NFS Prostreet twice in the same night when using 169.04. When I installed 171.16, the problems vanished ^^
Dodoman, Strange. I did as usual. Just open RivaTuner, Select Driver settings - Customize - System Settings - Overclocking.
¤ Mark "Enable driver-level hardware clocking"
¤ Mark "Startup settings - Apply overclocking at Windows startup"
If it does not work for you, I can only recommend to uninstall the current drivers, reboot twice, reinstall the drivers. And make sure you got the latest version of RivaTuner.
Hope I've been of help -
I'm running 169.09 and haven't noticed any problems, Is it worth the risk to upgrade to a newer version if i'm not having any problems as is?

I don't necessarily mean the new Beta version, but upgrade in general. Even up to .28 from .09. If i'm not having any problems, is it worth it to upgrade?

Made a Huge difference in Crysis compared to my previous set... now the game is quite playable at Medium settings -
fullycharged, If you look at the post you will see that I have my clock-settings next to both 3dmark06-settings

Newbie here ^^; I have 8400 on XP -- I think I once tried downloading the 169 drivers, but install didn't work. So I'm using whatever drivers Dell had on cd. I think the only oddity in games is the resolution goes as high as 1024x768, when my screen res is 1280x800. I'm redownload and see if they can work -- I'm nervous about causing damage and getting BSoD :/
Edit: Alright, downloaded 15683 for XP 32 bit, and still it brings up the error that it couldn't find any drivers compatible. I'm so confused.
Edit part Deux: the part in which the total n00b feels dumb, and scurries away. ^^; http://www.laptopvideo2go.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=33 this guide help tremendously. Will look into overclocking next. -
And specially games like CoD4, GoW and Bioshock?
And in that case, how much eyecandy are u able to turn on?
And how much heat does it dispatch?
