I just checked Dell's site and it appears that anyone ordering a 1520 today will have an estimated ship date of Aug 9th...However, that's only if you choose black, brown or red.

If you choose blue, green, white, pink or yellow your estimated ship date is pushed back to Aug 15th.

I ordered mine on the 16th and chose the midnight blue. At the time all that was backordered was the WXGA+ 1440x900 screen so it showed an estimated ship date of Aug 9th. I hope they got my blue lid set aside for my order before they became backordered too. If not, and they keep running out of stuff, then I'll never get my new lappy.

Does anyone know how they handle that situation? If something is backordered, do they "kit" the rest of the order and just hold it until the backordered parts arrive? OR Do they wait until every item in the order is in stock before they kit anything for that order?

Well, Dell canceled my 1520 order, over the weekend, it was for the maroon colour.

I needed to call them to ask why I no longer have access to the web site tracking.

I was told I needed to reorder??? I am going to reorder, but guess what not from Dell.

Dell first timer here, and not ever again

The delays are apparently due to a glass shortage on the world market, meaning that they are having a hard time getting the screens, or at least thats what i've been told by dell cs.

And Dell would never make any money, so they try to avoid this :)

Items SKUs from already placed orders are accounted for in the inventory. When a SKU goes on backorder for new orders, they can have literally thousands of them on hand, however the projected supply chain runs into an issue when the inventory would not get refreshed to fill all order before the estimated ship date of the order you are placing.

I have been told that my laptop is now delayed because of the blue cover. HE told me dell right now expects to ship mine out on the 27th of july. I hope that is true.

So this is only applicable to the 1520, and not the 1420?

(First post here. I have read around, and I like these forums!)

The replacement laptop was ordered on the 10th of july. It was supposed to ship the 17th of july.

Remember this is a repalcement laptop for my 1520 that came in dead on arrival. this is supposed to be expedited because its a repalcement for a bad one that was dead on arrival.

There has been no update to my in production status and the customer service manager states that its delayed because of the blue color and that they have a tentative new ship date of the 27th of july. Its not areal shipdate yet.

maybe the black part of the laptop is the same black part that the Inspirons use?
