My Inspiron 15 7000 Series 7559 came with a 128GB SSD, on which the OS is installed.

I purchased a third party 500 GB SSD as an upgrade.

I used the Windows CP to create a USB restore drive.

I can't figure out how to get the system to recognize the new drive and install the OS after changing them out. I keep getting an error that a required partition is missing.

Can anyone point me to a set of step-by-step instructions to resolve? I tried for hours to set up the new SSD with diskpart from the Command Line from the USB, but I'm obviously missing something (probably obvious).

You can always download Win 10 from Microsoft and install it that way. Its a PITA though as you will need all the drivers from Dell. I think thats what I ended up doing after messing with mine for a while.

I just did this with my wife's Inspiron. I bought this cable from Amazon and using the free Macrium Reflect imaging software I cloned the HD to the SSD. Swapped the drives and it booted right up. I can also use the cable with her old HD as an external drive.

What brand and model SSD did you buy? The M.2 NVM drives like the Samsung 950 Pro don't work with this system.

I have 2 Samsung SSD in mine. The M.2 is not a pro but the other one is.
