Im a new studio 15 owner, its shipping and i have a few questions

    1. Do the S15 models with 800fsb chips have 800hz ram or 667hz the on the website it shows 667 could someone with a 800fsb chip pleas check.

    2. What would be a good ram for a S15 to buy I want low latency

    3. What is the deal with the S15 and 64 bit Vista ? Do you get 64 bit if you order 4 gigs of ram?
I talked with Dell and they told be if I want my S15 with 64bit vista to pay them $100 I was told that they ship the disks for free with the systems?

4 How long can I expect to wait for delivery the message said Sep. 22 but the website states when ordering that the wait time can be up to 15 days .... the date they gave me is more than that.

    5. Will this laptop accept the new quad cpus when they come out?

I should have bought HP they have 64bit installed on all their new models... and the new CPUs only problem is they don't have a LED screen.

    1) You could check that yourself, but yes it is 667Mhz
2)I dont check canadian resellers, so i dont know, but you could probably find that yourself too at ncix or newegg
3)I believe you get 32-bit if you choose Home Premium and 64-bit if you choose Ultimate. The disks they ship are probably system restore discs, not OEMs.
    5) If they have the same sockets, probably with a bios update.

Also, some HP laptops do feature LED screens (at least, here in the US they do ).

1)Nas are you sure its 667??? b/c in the manual it says 800mhz unless i'm having a stupid day:

    2) Depends on the above....but check out Canadacomputers.com and tigerdirect.ca
    4) I ordered mine on the 12th of August...it shipped today and will most likely reach by Tuesday (monday is a statutory holiday)

The manuals and documentation are available here

Hmmm, well someone made a mistake on Dell's side then because it says 667Mhz here.

    1. Though it will run 800MHz CPU, the chipset is 667MHz which determines the memory speed.
    2. I bought the Kingston one: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820134624 ~$50 incl shipping for 2GB.
    3. You only get Vista x64 if you order one of the systems they have preconfigured with it and there's almost no customizability with those. The default is x86 when you configure one. But you can install x64 or even Server 2008 x64, both will work fine and all the x64 drivers are available.
    4. Depends on a lot of factors like demand and parts availability. Mine was originally projected over a month out, but arrived 10 days before the estimated ship date.
    5. No idea. Probably, if they fit the same socket and a BIOS update is released for it.

Thank you guys for the answers. The memory running at 667 is a problem  how does a 800fsb cpu run efficiently.
I ordered the basic cpu because I am hoping to get a quad when they come out.
I wonder if buying 800 would give me better timings because it would be running at 667 instead of 800 ( is there an option in the bios to tweak the timings?)
I was also wondering what is the vista rating for standard 2gig configuration and for one with 2.4gig cpu

I checked out the new HP model with the centrino 2 cpu at 2 gig and it was 4.9 the sony with a new cen2 at 2.26 was 5.1 mem at 5.9 both processors run at the 1066 fsb. I wonder if the old chipset of the Studio 15 gives much of a performance hit.

Bold : Please be specific; you want to buy 800 what? Do you mean 800mhz ram? If so then you should know that 667mhz will have faster stock timings.
What I can gather from what you seem to be trying to say is, you want to buy 800mhz ram so it can downclock itself to 667mhz, and because of that, you can tighten the timings better than normal? Am I right?

And from what I remember there aren't types of overclocking features included in HP's products. Furthermore, I believe overclocking their products actually results in voiding your warranty.

Well, IIRC, quads arent coming out until Calpellla ( at least, none that I know of ). If thats the case, you will not be able to upgrade to a quad because of Intel's QPI which will need a new socket.

4.9 What? 2.26 What? WHAT ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT?!?!?!?!?!?

Are you saying that the HP model got 4.9 in WEI with 2GBs of ram and the Centrino2 cpu? While the Sony had a Centrino2 cpu at 2.26Ghz which got a WEI of 5.1 and the ram got a score of 5.9? Please be specific and label your numerical values.

    Yes :D

Yes the WEI rating I forgot what it was called sorry for being so confusing but you got what I was trying to say perfectly. ( long day 2 days and no sleep  )
So what is the WEI rating of a Studio 15 with the 2 gig CPU?

You mean a 2ghz cpu. right?

well, there are 2 different possible intel CPU models offered by Dell that run @ 2ghz. The T5750 and the T7200... one has a 667mhz memory bus, the other a 800mhz bus.

My Studio 17 with T5750 gets a WEI CPU score of 4.9.

I dont know what that processor scores, but I do know that WEI is very bad way to judge performance; my cpu has ranged from 5.0 to 5.3 ( test was ran only after a reinstall and drivers ). Seeing as the scale is from ( 1.0? ) to 5.9, the ratings should be much more consistent.
