    Hey,

I want to buy a Studio 15 but I'm not sure if I should wait a little longer...Do you think Dell is going to be releasing a new model soon? Is there some sort of schedule that Dell seems to go buy when they release new models?...or is it just sort of random?

I really don't want to buy one and then a week later a new model comes out or the price drops by a lot. =/ So anyway, what do you think? Thanks

The 1558 is fairly recent, it has chips from the current year in it.

If you need a new notebook now, go ahead and order one. If you don't then wait. The tech world is fast changing, no matter what you do it will be outdated in six months. The Studios were recently updated with the new Intel chips pretty recently so I would expect anything until Intel released a new round of chips in a year or so. The basic chassis design is quite old and due for replacement but considering Dell didn't do it for the completely new chips I don't look for them to do it anytime soon.

New models are released when new hardwares are released.
the studios have been upgraded very recently with new hardware.
the 1557 & 1558 have all new hardwares available and it looks like intel and amd will NOT be launching new products soon.also DDR4 is very far from here so if u want to buy a laptop, buy it now so that it won't become outdated for another 6 months or a year.

What more are you looking for?

    They have the latest CPUs.
    They have the latest chipsets.
They have the latest video cards (not the best mind you, but the latest).
They have blu-ray (readers and burners).
    They have HDMI.
    They have 1080P.

    Things it could have ...
    RGB 1080P
Faster video card (this is not a gaming laptop ... but would still perform well with what it has)
    USB3
6300 wireless - this can be upgraded fairly easy
SSD - this can be added later (when they are cheaper!)

For me ... the current deals on the Studio 15 are awesome ...

The specs are right ... the price is right ... go for it!

There are many scopes for the upgrades to Studio 15. The world has gone far ahead of new releases.
For me at least I can expect the below 2 in a new laptop now ...

    1. USB 3.0 port(s)
    2. switchable graphics, as co-existence of both onboard and dedicated GPU

So, Dell has to come up with studio/SXPS refreshes if they want to stay at top.
See, Asus has made USB 3.0 MANDATORY for all most all laptops in their March/Apr e-Catalog ;)

I expect Dell to lag on USB 3. They generally do those features using the Intel Chipset directly. Intel hasn't released USB 3 chipsets yet and when they do it will be in a new chipset package. So until we see the new CPU/Chipset refresh you can probably count that out for Dell.

OMG ! What is happening ? Whenever I'm sticking/waiting for a model, that is lacking of one or more features of my list. I do not know when I can get a laptop of my specs(i5-520M, 4GB DDR3 RAM, 500 GB 7200 RPM HDD, 15-16" Full HD screen, USB 3.0, dedicated GPU with switchable option, chicklet+backlit keyboard,etc...) Asus has some models which has most except the Full HD screen :(

    I don't see USB3 for the Sony.

Plus for me the 16.4 inch screen is a bit too big because it drops the battery life.

Nice looking maching though ... for me though ... I still prefer the Dell Studio 15 ... for my needs.

I specifically want i5-520M (dual core) no quad core i7. And I think Sony F series may not have an USB 3.0. Again its little higher from my budget of approx $1000 USD ;)
