Well any problems with my original 1400 seem to be gone.
I had a x3100 and a CD-RW before, sold it and got a 8400 and a DVD+RW.
Headphone noise is completely gone.
DVD drive is almost silent, except when installing software
Speakers seem much clearer
No grainy WXGA+ (SEC4457)
Only thing is the loose battery, but I can get some tape.
Fan stays on more, but I realized that is due to having the dedicated GPU to cool now, instead of the IGP

Which WXGA+ screen do you have now? I wasn't clear if you were complaining that the SEC4457 was grainy, or that is what you have now.
-
I got my Vostro 1400 couple days ago and Im having the same issue for the DVD drive and speakers... I want a replacement..
-
Can you test your built in mics by recording yourself talking? Mine are horribly buzzy/staticky even in a quiet environment...
-
I have the very same problem on my 1400, the recordings are so staticky and buzzy and they are very loud...
Well, I just talked to a tech. rep and he said he'll send in a replacement,,, I hope the replacement is better than this one...
But still,, im a bit concerned,, what do I if my replacement is worse than the one I currently have?? If this happens,, do I just return the replacement? Or do I have to return the current one eventhough it might be better than the replacement..? -
I currently have the SEC4457, same screen as before, but no grain!
I'll get to take a recording later (which program btw do I use?) -
He is sending a whole new laptop? If so is he sending new or refurb?
There are so many potential problems with these Vostros it's kind of scary what you might get wrong instead... -
I think he's sending a whole new laptop because the one I have riught is like new,,, only used it for a week,
-
I just talked to customer care and it seems they want to do the same to me which is looking pretty sucky because by the time it gets to me I will probably be outside my 30 day return limit
If that happens I am definitely chewing on some managers ear to get it extended or something because problems like this are pretty BS... -
Does the 30day return limit thing start when you order the system or when you actually receive and turn on the system???
-
I think they like to say when they ship it but if they try that on me I am giving them hell and demanding at least the day I receivd it (in my case I had it particularly bad becuase their massive delays caused it to arrive the day after I left the country for 2 weeks, I asked them to dump me to the slowest shipping possible and they didn't).
-
guys they only send band new units AS LONG AS YOU SPECIFY YOU want a new one.. tell them no refurb's period..
btw there is also a program/driver toshiba includes for their laptops called drive quiet i think anyway i installed that on my vostro i had before sending it back and it got rid of all the dvd drive noise.. might want to look it up on toshiba web site it was a reg free download.. i think the laptop number i found it under was a135-4666 if i remember right -
first off its 21 days if you are in the usa.. second it starts from the day they invoice you for the system.. so if you order it on the first then they invoice you on the 10th and you get in on the 15th it still started on the 10th... understand??
-
Vostro in the US is 30 days...
-
I asked the rep. if Im getting a brand new one, and she said "yes" because Im still in the 21days return thing, she also told me that the 21days starts when ur order is shipped..
tried the driver you mentioned,, it didnt work and my dvd drive still has cliching sounds... i guess,, ill just wait for the replacemnt.
