I just got my new Vostro 1500, 2mb, Gef 8400M GS video card, Core 2 duo 1.4gb, etc. Ordered on 15th received 20th.

So far I like it very much. However I have a couple of questions.

    1. The monitor under Hardware Ids. is CPT141F
It shows up as a generic pnp monitor, is this normal or should it be something else?

    2. I set the brightness to 1/2 way up but it wont stay, after screen saver or reboot or whatever it goes back to full. How can I get it to stay?

    3. Using the touch pad, items get highlighted and drag without me doing anything I know of. What can I do to stop it?

    thanks

i want to know the answer to #2, got the same problem

#3... this is a bit obvious but u know a tap on the touch pad is equivelent to a mouse click right? ur probably clicking on them and when u move the mouse they drag. if its not this then no idea

Do you have the laptop on max performance? Try putting it to balanced.

Learn how to use the touchpad...

I have, Let Windows pick best performance.

I figured it was the touch pad. I'm used to the IBM finger pointer. I know I have to learn to use it but I cant figure out what I'm doing to make it select. I have tried to watch what I'm doing but don't see what is triggering it. Sometimes I just touch the pad and its selected, other times I can scroll and scroll and try to select but it doesn't. I have set the touch pad to slow response of double clicks. What else can I do to desensitize it? Also I have the touch pad speed set to fast but it still takes about 5 swipes to cross the screen. Is this normal?

About the screen brightness not staying after setting and the monitor driver issue.
I had a live chat with Dell today, they took control and tried everything I did, then went to upgrade the bios with the same version, then the monitor driver, same one, generic pnp. Evidently they don't have one for this monitor. Then they asked me to check if it would stay if I booted into diags. It did.
As soon as I booted back to windows it jumped back to full. I assume its a Vista problem, they would not concede this though. They think its a hardware problem with the laptop but suggest I try to reinstall Vista again. I said I will live with it or install Xp, they said if I install XP do they cant help me anymore since its a different operating system then what I ordered. I would have to send the computer back and order a new one with XP installed. Well that is a big waist of resources.
