They look much more businessy. They remind me of Thinkpads at first glance.

But yeah, I'm kind of fond of my Vostro 1500.

They look OK to me. In fact they look significantly thinner. The Vostro was never about design was it? This is like arguing over which is prettier, the Chevy Sprint or Geo Metro.

OMG..that's such a crappy looking laptop. Seems as if it is from the 90s...lol

Anyways..if you are for the looks, I think you'll have to move away from the business line laptops and opt for the consumer line...I mean...com'on, business people don't care about how good their lappy looks, all they care about is to get the job done efficiently and securely, which is probably why Lenovo ThinkPads have kept almost the exact layout for MANY years...

    Brief review here

One of things I really liked about the previous design was the speakers and media buttons on the front, so that I can listen too music with the lid closed.

Also, the previous keyboard was great, with its integration of the arrow keys, instead of having them 'hang' below the rest of the keyboard.

Part of the reason I got a Vostro was because I think it looks better than the Inspirons. Those new ones are not good-looking, either. Too Thinkpad.

I think they purposefully altered the image in part to dissuade savvy consumers from buying better value for money Vostros over Inspirons for what was essentially the same specification and chassis.

It's worked on me, because I really don't want a Vostro anymore. :p

I think that's exactly what they've done. Otherwise, they could have just made a black 1525.

I bought my Vostro 1500 with doubts that I would like the design. I bought it just for the video card. Well, I must admit, I like the design too and I mean it. Don't know why because it's not thin, it doesn't have nice looks, but I think it looks macho. Yeah, I think this is the word: macho. Like someone else said earlier the new Vostro looks like a 90's laptop. I really don't like it, except the position of the media buttons. And that's it.

And a "glossy" finish on the display cover? Business people want "glossy"?? Don't think so.....

I'm not so happy with this if these laptops are replacing the current Vostros. Sure, the current Vostros were never about design, but that kinda gets worse for the new Vostros. The new ones are just like the Lenovo T61s in design, which IS BAD. It's boxy and has a real outdated look like the T61...

Yes, the new Vostros are compared easily to the T61s, which have had the same design since 1997...

Agreed! I think the new designs are way much better than the old Vostro line. It's exactly what a BUSINESS laptop should look like - functionality over cosmetics.

While some people complained that they look too 90s, that's exactly the kind of nostalgic touch they have that I like while still being thin and light, not like those flashy designs you see flooding the market nowadays!

I agree on the 90s looking laptops. I am not that much of a fan of flashy laptops. Thats why I like my thinkpad. My Inspiron 1520 isn't too terrible bad - but some laptops are way over the top.

No way. It gets fingerprints and scratches that are far more visible.

And the 'old' Vostros are comparable to a G3 Powerbook, which also dates back to '97

    The new Vostro's look good.
