I currently have a dell vostro with a 160 gb harddrive , and i would like to update it since it has just 5400 rpm ,

I was thinking about this harddrive with 200 gb and 7200 rpm

do you think there would be a big performance boost , in things like the start up or starting a game ? , and how many percent do you think would it be faster?

Another questions i have is if the dell media direct buttons would actually still work with the new harddrive.

    thanks!

i find the 5400 drives in my machine are fine ,the 7200rpm would be faster obviously, just ask yourself what do you need it to be faster for exactly ?

seen as your asking what and how much boost it would give,t hat maybe hints you dont particularly need a 7200 rpm for anything specific ?

my view in that case, and if it was me , the upgrading from a 160 to a 200 isnt that great and id just spend the money on a massive external drive instead !

You are right there , i dont really need it but I would like to max out my notebooks performance so i was just thinking about the biggest bottleneck which should be the harddrive i guess.
