Sorry guys...I merged your two threads since it is the same topic and link.
-
LoL we both posted the same thing in a matter of seconds, what are the odds?
-
Lol I know right
-
nice, if these match up my needs might get it instead of the m1530 unless the refresh for xps is better!
-
No info on GPU? Are they sticking with the older 8600GT DDR3? Or are they moving up to the 9600 maybe?
-
Studio 15 is nice.. hopefully they have some nice exhaust system to it...
-
so both the 15, 17 are starting at 799 dollars, is that in canada too
-
I'm really disappointed they don't have a 13 inch version this time around.
-
i cant wait till there out.
-
Jayayess1190 Waiting on Intel Cannonlake
-
How did they post an article that is from tomorrow?
-
-
I think you are right. Someone else posted that these systems are available in Europe where it is Thursday now.
-
i think that as far the gpu goes for the 15 incher, a 9700m gts is doable because toshiba qosmio f50 coming out next month can do it and its also 15inches.
-
-
wot intergrated gpu will they have?
-
No matte screen options mentioned.
-
Why do the descriptions in the pics seem to indicate only the 17" will get an LED display? But nice that they are keeping matte as a display option.
-
Took them long enough to realize that silver is not the best color for a notebook … Finally some sensible color schemes.
-
Doubt the Studio line will have powerful graphics...
-
-
I see it'll have the 3450 for the ATI machine and the 8600M GT. It'll also have Intel and ATI integrated.
-
So... no Montevina for the Studio line... yet.
The Betanews article says "WUXGA and WXGA+ LED options", could this mean the WUXGA is an LED backlit too?
Reading the article, there is also no eSATA port, which would have been pretty major, but since it doesn't, oh well.
I cant believe they scrap the WSXGA+! Its one of the best resolutions!
Theres also no mention at all about any backlit keyboards, which would've been very major. I guess it was one of those conceptual ideas that have been scrapped.
I'm guessing with Montevina just a few months away, the Studio line will probably get a refresh with backlit keyboards, eSATA probably in late August. Though you never know.
For the time being, I'm satisfied with my M1530 as it still has a good edge over them.
I wonder if this article was a timed release and Dell is actually planning to unleash the Studio line later today, June 26th. Or perhaps sometime this week. Whatever the case, we must be close! -
okay, but wots ati newest intergrated gpu. i know intels is x4500 i think and thas going into macbooks. and i read on nvidia that they have a 8100,8200 and 8300 gs gpus to replace the 7150 for desktops,i wonder if one of those will replace the 7150m for laptops, and i see that they are only with amd motherboards?.
-
Who cares, its integrated. Its all the same at this point. Sure the Montevina ones will be more capable... but they are not in the Studio line, so, IGP is still IGP.
-
Glad to finally see that the Studio line has been official revealed.
So, do you think they'll switch to Montevina once that comes out? -
-
Dell Uk are now selling the Studio laptop
-
Any help would be appreciated!
ps a 13 inch Studio will follow in due course, don't you think? -
lol they are to,but they dont look like any special or anything like i thought. i thought the keyboard was supposed to look lik the macbook keyboard and black. from the earlier pics the showed these do not look like them, but they do come with ati radeon mobility 3450 256mb even at the entry level
-
Great... now it will be even harder for me to decide what to buy come August. Would have liked to see an nVidia card instead of the ATI one, as I never really liked them and only had problems with ATI.
Still only available in the UK it seems. -
No they are also available in Germany, France and Spain - so across the whole Europe.
-
I had a chat with the support. They could give no information officially or unofficially about the Studio line, nor a date for release. He couldn't answer any question about a possible refresh of the XPS 1530 either.
One thing he did say was the date for Montevina, july 12th. He also said that it could take some time for Dell to use it, no time frame was given. I'm hoping it is available by mid August at least. -
-
Looking at the review the 17-inch model looks really fat. I hope the 15-inch model is thinner than that.
-
It has backlit keyboard option!! wooohooo
-
They are now on the Dell USA site.
-
it looks awesome! Has everything I wanted in my next laptop.
Now I just gotta wait for Montevina and then I'll order.
Think there will be any coupons for this soon? -
Nope. Its a new product. There may be coupons, but it will be very minimal discount.
One thing is virtually 100% certain. That 25% off coupon for the XPS M1530 will not be showing up anytime soon with Studio out. -
why is the 7200rpm HDD only available in the UK? - Will it be available soon in the US too?
-
No, things are a bit different in the UK. Its Dell's way of making up to them for the lack of LED screens.
-
How good are the ATI 3450 and 3650 video adapters in the studio line? How do they compare to the M1530's nvidia 8600M GT?
-
3450 - 8400m
3650 - 8600m -
The more I compare the specs, the Studio 15 really blurs the line between it and the XPS M1530, down to the very similar looks.
It almost seems the Studio 15 surpasses withe M1530 with the inclusion of Gigabit ethernet. Why in the world did Dell design their top-of-the-line unit with 10/100 instead of Gigabit?
Everything else seems pretty much equal, including dimensions (the M1530 is just ever so slightly smaller).
My M1530 is still within the 21 day return period, but the price I paid for it (just over $1200) I cannot configure a Studio 15 similarly for less than $1400. -
I think I'd be willing to trade the fingerprint reader for an LED screen (which was unfortunately not available on the XPS here in the UK). Backlit keyboard would be nice but would definitely depend on the price to add it. I'd be using wireless most of the time but gigabit ethernet would be nice to have available. The powered USB port might also be handy - does the XPS have one?
I think I prefer the overall design of the Studio, especially the black keyboard - and it just looks a bit sleeker overall, I think.
On the downside, it seems to be a Dell wireless card rather than the Intel one which is a slight worry. Also I want to use Ubuntu, but I guess it would be reasonable to assume this wouldn't be a problem, right?
I was expecting it to be underpowered in the graphics department, but from a very quick look around, it seems it could be about in line with XPS 1530 on this factor too; is that correct?
So I guess to sum up, is the Studio technically inferior in any way to the XPS? -
Its inevitable that a newer design would include some new features that the older ones (even if it is in a different league) does not have.
The M1530 - if it is to be updated, wouldnt be before Montevina comes out. When that does happen - the difference between Studio and XPS will be much clearer. -
From the 3D mark testing they did, 3650 is way slower than the 8600M GT when paid with the same T9300 as the Studio 17 has. A lot faster than 8600M GS (in the new Vostro 1710 for those like me who were considering that).
Glad I waited, price I got from the US store is competitive with what I was looking at for an Inspiron or Vostro, and there are some good discount offers in the US Dell store at the moment.
Now just have to wait for the Australian release... -
