I purchased an alienware m17x r4 manufacturer refurbished on ebay on 1st of september 2013 which has a guarantee start of July 25 2013 on Dell's site. I had the item shipped to my friend in USA, Then he brought it to me on 17th of September. I called the dell support in Turkey on 18th of september about my defective keyboard. After 15 days, they came to my home and changed my keyboard, turns out it is a mainboard issue. Today I called them and told them this is a new laptop and I purchased it over a month and I have not been able to use it so far, and I demanded replacement. They told me it is not possible. Because the warranty started on 25th of july 2013.
Before purchasing the laptop, the lady from the dell support told me that I can use my guarantee date as the purchase date of the ebay transaction which is the beginning of september. Now they say you exceeded the replacement period and cannot change your computer with a new one.
This has been the worst experience ever. I have waited for my keyboard to get fixed for 15 days and now I still have the same issue on my brand new laptop.

Not sure what you mean by "Guarantee Start". If you have issues with the computer, contact the eBay seller. Not sure why you didn't do this sooner...
