My sister swears she saw a banner ad for a tough notebook from Dell on the Weather Channel website today. Anyone heard about such a thing? I couldn't find anything on the Weather Channel website, Dell or from a google search.

They have certain rugged-type features in their Latitudes. There's nothing new that's been released though.

I don't even think the Latitude line is known for being 'rugged' machines; in comparison to ToughBooks or ThinkPads.

The latitude line is alot tougher so to speak than the other series that dell offers. They are built better, and have a better overall quality. They probably aren't something you would want to take out in the oil field or something, but they can stand heavy usuage and daily traveling better than the Inspiron/XPS.

My sis said the ad showed water being spilled on the keyboard! She remembers 'cause she said to her daughter, "that would be a good notebook for you" (spill prone!). So more than just Latitude slightly tough.

My sister has a thinkpad, and that thing is a beast (rugged-wise).

    For sure. Very rugged.

Never heard of a waterproof keyboard on a Dell though, and still, I wouldn't recommend spilling any water on a ThinkPad, although in most, the water won't leak into the components as long as you drain it quick.

...but I can just imagine it now...Person walks up to Dell kiosk with water bottle in hand. Starts looking at a Latitude (salesperson watches)>open lid of water bottle>start draining the thing all over the keyboard and display :D>salesperson (WHAT ARE YOU DOING FOOL?!)>You: Conducting an experiment :D.

    Results: Unsuccessful

I think i'm gonna pass on this machine. Thanks for the demo.
