I ordered my 1530 with the 1680x1050 screen almost a month ago and it has finally shipped. I checked my service tag info and for the screen info it reads:
"X167G LIQUID CRYSTAL DISPLAY..., 15.4WSXGA+, TLF, SAMSUNG..., V2"
Could this V2 mean version 2? the part number is different from everyone else's Samsung screens that i have read about.
thanks

Fountain got that screen and his is in Transit, so you'll be able to find out how it is when he gets his..

Different strokes for different folks. Does the resolution make that much of a difference in office tasks? -
-
Unless your doing some kind of art/web CAD developing I dont see the need for that kind of resolution. The fill count wont help make games look better in lower resolutions, since you obviously cant game in 1900+. Side by Side the LED is just beautiful and the older style screen is well, older.
The forum is full of people going "omg crap screen LED please" So, I think it speaks for itself. But yeah, the high resolution does have its niches. Some people rely on that kind of resolution to get work done. But on a 15.4 screen, eww. -
Yes the LED screens look better, yet some CCFL screen with higher resolution look very nice too. I'm sure my next laptop will have a LED screen and the resolution will be higher than 1440x900 you guys had to settle for... -
Im looking forward for the new Samsung screen. If it is really hard to get an LG why not to get a better Samsung.
-
Im not "Settleing" for a 1440x900. Thats 720p HD with bright vibrant colors. Im not missing out anything by not being able to make Icons tiny and my games lag on a resolution that Scientist find 8/10 people cannot see the difference of 720p and 1080p after two feet distance.
How am I missing out? -
Honestly, my intial observation (only a few minutes now) is that the screen isn't that bad. Had I not read these forums, it'd not even occur to me that there was supposed to be something wrong with it. Now, having read all this stuff, I can see where someone might suggest that the whites aren't the brightest whites one could imagine. If I get right up close to it and look as hard as I can, maybe it seems a little grainy. But really, it looks OK to me.
Now if I had it right next to an LG, maybe I'd see the difference. Ignorance is bliss and all that. I still need to spend some time with it, but so far my 40 year old eyes are OK with what I see. If someone has seriously keen eyesight and is very picky, they might have a different opinion. -
I just went through swapping the Samsung for the LG screen. Plug an external monitor into your notebook and mirror the displays. Now open a color photo with areas of white and areas of black. I used a picture of my daughter sleeping in her car seat taken last winter (black car interior with lots of snow outside). The best way to describe the difference I could come up with would be to tape a thin piece of wax paper over the external monitor.
With the LG display installed, I think the image on the laptop display is clearer than the image on the external monitor. -
current samsung screen is not that bad, i have one in my 1420 (soon m1330
) and it is bright enough and no grain!
-
Seriously, this screen isn't that bad. I just set up my current (now former) notebook (a Dell XPS M140) to wipe the drive and reinstall the OS for my wife to use. I had them sitting next to each other and was surprised at how much brighter the M1530 screen is compared to the one on the M140. The screen on the M140 is noticably more muted, more yellow in the whites, and grainier. Now, the M140 screen is matte, but that doesn't account for all of the difference.
I guess since the new display seems a significant step up from the old one, it seems OK to me. Or, maybe all of the Samsungs aren't that bad. I certainly don't have the sensation of "looking through a screen door" that many people describe the display as having. It looks fine to my eye.
But as I said, maybe my eyes just aren't as good as everyone else's. Or maybe I'm just easy to please.
New version of Samsung Screen?
