I just installed windows home edition on my friends Dell Inspiron E1505 from a disk from My AW computer.Since there are no drivers that match the dell it wont connect to the net for drivers. I downloaded drivers from the dell site on my AW for friends dell and downloaded to a CD and in ISO on an other CD. Nether CD can be read on the dell computer so how do I get the drivers installed so I can get this thing working? thanks kirk

Maybe it the virus/trojan has gotten deeper then just the operating system.

What the heck does viruses have to do with anything? Use a flash drive to transfer drivers from one computer to another.

don't even need dell drivers to get started. windows will have the realtek drivers. PLUG the laptop into the network and download the wireless drivers. then the rest follows....

It wont go on the internet. The windows disk I used was for a different computer so I think the drivers may be different. I tried a flash drive but cant open file. I tried to open the driver file on other computers and same thing, no good. I even hard wired the lappy to a router and it wont connect. The computer says all components are working but no driver installed.

Did you connect a network cable to it?

All windows disks are the same. If it's NOT a windows disc, but a recovery disc, then you may be out of luck.

Now wait a second... it reads the windows disk OK, but not the disk you burnt with the network driver on it?

What are you using to burn the CD?

The first 'driver' that's supposed to be installed on the E1505 for XP is the Notebook System Software (under System Utilities on the driver page), followed by the Chipset driver (Mobile Chipset under Chipset; the Ricoh driver there is for the card reader if it has one... install that one near the end).
    Then,
    3. audio driver
    4. video driver
    5. network controller driver
    5a. modem (conextant)
    6. QuickSet application
    7. wireless driver
    8. synaptics (touchpad) driver
    9. bluetooth driver (if installed, it's in a trap door on the end of the battery compartment... the latch pops open with fingernail pressure)
    10. card reader driver
    11. patches/updates

A similar list was included (in \SUPPORT\DRIVERIN.HTM) on the Drivers and Utilities CD that came with it originally; harder to find on dell.com, though.
