Direct2dell.com is the Dell's blog used to communicate with its customers. Recently, Lionel Menchaca of Dell posts "Dell's 23 Confessions". In the thread, he mentions that some very cool PCs being introduced later this month. And, he said,"Our customers can order systems with Windows XP, Vista, Ubuntu, or no operating system at all. If Steve Jobs ever changes his tune on OS X, we’d probably offer it too. "

Dose he mean it's possible for Dell to install OSX?!!!
    It's incredible~!

not really. the reason that pcs can't install osx is because apple has said that osx can only be on apple systems. so until steve jobs decides that osx can be run on non-mac machines, it isn't going to happen.

There is a TPM chip on the Intel Based Apple motherboards that is used for identification. And before people start thinking of installing a TPM on thier PC's or changing the existing one's, please read the article on TPM on Wikipedia.

Apple knows that the Mac OS can't directly compete with Windows for the same hardware. That's why it uses TPM technology. Just look at the horrendous security flaws found in Safari (regardless of whether it is in beta or not, it was compromised in less than 2 hours by one guy. How sad).

Hey, hey, hey. Don't blame just Apple for Safari for Windows. First of all, its a beta, and good thing you noticed. Betas are meant for testing for problems, not for mainstream use. Lots of problems to be fixed, and everyone knows that and should know that. Second, Safari 3 Beta for Mac is perfectly fine. Safari 3 Beta for Windows has lots of flaws found. They use the same technology. So why flaws on the Windows version? Because its on Windows ;). Anyways...

I don't believe that at all. Steve Jobs has no reason to put Mac OS X on a Dell. Plus, he and Michael Dell still have a little feud going on ;).

To the original poster, if you're so excited about Dell possibly offering Mac OS X (which won't happen), just get a Mac ;).

A lot of Apple's success in the computer side comes from the integration of software and hardware. They're able to do that because they can control just what hardware their software needs to work with. You only get x number of configurations, meanwhile Windows must work with almost unlimited combinations. That's a big reason why OS X has not been widely released on other platforms.

So if you try to install OS x on a dell it won't work? Is there a special hardware in Apple that it will only install on?

Who said you can't install OS X on a dell machine? or any pc....
I've installed it on my old E1505, played with it for few days, then formatted the partition ... I'll chose windows xp sp2 over osx any day of the week.

Alright, this has gone on long enough. Legally, you cannot install OS X on a non-Apple machine.
