By MrFaust:
My father bought an E1705 last week. Unfortunately it came with the ATI X1400 video card and we have been LESS THAN THRILLED with it's performance. I've read where lots of people have been disabling once of the CPU cores in the bios to get performance. My point is, if I wanted to disable a core, i would have bought a single-core cpu laptop. Well Dad just got off the phone with Dell. It appears that they now have some GeForce Go 7900 cards, but not many. They expect more next week. These cards are expected to be $500+ US. The lady he spoke with said that this card does work fine with the E1705 and that not only is it faster than the 7800 it also fixes some of the issues that were found with the Go 7800 as well. We are supposed to get a call back next week when they come avalible for purchase. I think they have the bios and drivers ready for this as well. Atleast early drivers. Will post updates when we get the card and see what kind of performance increase we get.
Someone else in another forum read this and called their rep to find out that the 7900's in testing at the moment and that it'll be available soon.

Thanks for the post on this information, I'm sure some will be more than a bit happy to hear this...
-
^^ You'd already know about this though, wouldnt you? Can you confirm or deny this?
-
Wow. Weird. I thought this news would've got some attention...but nothing? :|
Wow. -
It's had 115 views man. That's a lot of attention! But maybe they didn't have anything to add/ask.
Thanks anyways,
Sam -
thanks for the info -
WOW $500 bucks though. Thats a lot! Thats half the computers price without any upgrades.. $999.

As long as you can use the coupons, you should get a decent discount off of it. I think it is great that they are going to offer that card, can't wait to see the benchmarks.
Thanks for the info. -
Ugh! I wish they would hurry up with the 7900...
I've waited forever to get a gaming notebook, and now that I can afford one, the part I'm most concerned about isn't available. *Gripes* -
I've still got my doubts though. I'm still finding it hard to believe that they're gonna offer the 7900. I wont believe it till they ship my system with it.
If they dont...ahh well, too bad, 7800 it is then. I'm sure that's good enough too anyway. -
Hmmm....
-
So no 7900 in the 9400? So the 9400 that they just shipped out to me will be with the 7800 like EVERYONE else? So I'm not getting the worse end of the deal?
Excellent, that's all that mattered to me
Question - will the 7800GO be replaceable by the 7900GO easily (manually)? -
-
I hope they offer the 7900 in something besides the overpriced XPS...
-
The XPS M1701 will most likely use the 7900 GTX, not the GS. The GS is actually a 10-15% downgrade from the 7800 GTX. So unless the M1701 wasn't made to replace the XPS M170, it won't be using the GS... making it still an option for the E1705...
Which really would be good. Some people have made a point in that the 7900 GS probably wouldn't come out for the E1705 untill the new XPS came out. If it did, you could have a notebook with very similar performance (an in some cases better) then Dell's "performance" XPS notebook, for $500 less. So the sooner the XPS M1710 come outs, the sooner the E1705 can get the 7900. -
Just to clear something, the name of the new XPS is not M1701, it is M1710.
Just wanted to clarify that -
-
Actually, a Dell rep told me in the chat that the M1710 will have both the GS and GTX cards to choose from...
He did a cut-and-paste from the product spec... -
I can't even imagine how much the 9400/M1710 are going to cost.
The M1710 alone would more than likely be over $3000 for such a powerful notebook, with core duo, and the 7900GTX. -
The 7900 is actually cheaper than the 7800, at least the desktop cards...
But yeah, a maxed-out M1710 will make me poor... -
Well that sucks, now I want mine replaced. -
Yeah, i don't know what the pricing would be but the high end Core Duo the 1710 comes with would definitely result in a high price, and the graphics card cost would add to that significantly.

"Just to clear something, the name of the new XPS is not M1701, it is M1710."
Lmfao... I thought I might be wrong. I was going to google it and edit it if I needed to... but I forgot to check. Ha. -
The 7900GTX alone will be over $500
-
Think I'll be able to moan about my purchase of the 9400 and ask them to replace the 7800GO with the 7900GO?
I hope so! -
But would you pay the price for such a beast??
i've been reading this thread going back and forth between buying the new m1710 or waiting for the e1701 to get the 7900.....i think i'm leaning toward the first opt. i also wonder if the new M gets a makeover?? -
Well, i somewhat think there could be a few changes.
The reason i ordered my M170 right before this thing is coming out, is because Dell is really cutting back on the prices.
Also, why would i pay $1000 more to get a newer looking XPS, Core Duo, and the 7900GTX, when there is a strong chance that M170 users will be able to upgrade to the 7900GTX. Which, if its true, leaves Core Duo, and better looks left.
