Would really like a M140 sized laptop with a dual core chip. Any news if they'll be announcing more DC laptops anytime soon?

Right now, the only systems that i've heard of that will be updated will be in the latitude series. I would think that Dell would keep the M140 as a PM for awhile because it was just released a few months ago, and not everyone is going to want dual core at the moment. M170 will probably be updated first, and then the M140.

Dell does have plans and we've seen several dual core machines from them, but unfortunately cannot comment further.

Well i'm hopeful that they refresh the 6000 range, as I'm in need of a Dual Core with a 15" screen. It certainly looks like dell are trying to sell off the current range as it's heavily discounted.

I can't see any of their systems carrying on with older tech, surely they will upgrade to the Napa platform sooner rather than later.

I'll kick myself of course if they dont, as there's some **** fine deals to be had in the January sales...

They'll have to update all the systems. I just meant in my earlier post that is hard to tell when they will do it.

I wonder how dell will do it. I figured they would update the higher end notebooks and work their way down the line. Maybe they'll just update all of them at the same time.

Intel is pushing Core Duo in a big way and consumers are likely to hold out for this... I predict Dell's next move will be quick with the 6000 Inspiron released as both Core Duo and Solo at the beginning of Feburary.

Able to comment if it will be sooner rather than later, or can't even do that?

I predict 6000, then 700m will be next. I think it will work based on the popularity of the different notebooks. Seeing how the 9300 was the first to be updated

Right before you left did the sales people from DELL quickly put on shades followed by a quick flash of light like in the movie Men in Black? ;)

This sounds interesting! Since I'm likely to be shopping from April/May onwards, it sounds like I may have a few more options (currently researching/reviewing top-spec M170 vs 9400)

I am really looking forward to a version of the Inspiron 6000 with Dual Core, as I feel the 9400 is too large for me.

As the prices on the 9400 are dropping quickly (you can now buy a 9400 Dual Core for about 1000 Euro in the Netherlands), I do hope prices on a 6100 version will be in the same league (taking into account the smaller screen etc.) :)

Reviewing the dell US website, I'm astonished at the variety of prices I seem to be getting - I'm trying to gen the same spec from each place, and then save the "print summary" to disk to see what the differences are....

Hmm - different areas pricing seem quite varied!

I can get (for roughly the same spec):
    US: either $3150, $3262 or $3500
    UK: 2298 punds = +-$4090

I think the support contracts are the difference - need to do more indepth comparison, but otherwise they are all:
    2.16 (T2600), 2GB (667mhz), 7800go, 19"WUXGA, 100gb(7200rpm), bluetooth, 9cell battery, XP Pro SP 2
