Our company has been a 100% Dell shop since the 90's. After trying some Inspiron's, we have standardized on Latitudes. Typically D620's and of course now the D630's.

Given the D630 is out, do you think there is a new generation right around the corner? I think the C series was out for five years. The D series, I believe has been out 4.5 years.

I'm looking at getting a bunch of docking stations and the like but would hold off if there was a new generation coming out.

    Any speculation?

Any speculation is purely that.....speculation and will have no bearing on the facts.

Buy what you need NOW, not what you'll potentially need tomorrow.

yeah, honestly there is nothing wrong with them. they are a rock solid design, look professional and sell great. i wouldn't see any reason for dell to change them. many companies would be angry if they did change them.

I purchased my D820 just as the first D830's were starting to ship. The bugs were worked out of the D820's hardware components and it has been a rock solid notebook that allowed me to go from Vista business to XP Pro SP2 with no driver hassle. The D830 and D630 notebooks are also available with either OS. Will the next generation? Maybe, maybe not. I have learned from the 486 desktop days that there is always something new around the corner, and not always for the better, such as going from a Pentium III to a Pentium 4. Pentium III was the better design. So purchase what you need today with a memory upgrade down the road as an option in case you want to upgrade the notebook from 32bit to 64bit in a couple of years. You will never be able to keep up with the technology updates. There are some new Intel processors coming the first part of 2008 for the notebooks, but today's processors are just fine.
