Dell flies the laptops from Malaysia to a number of different distribution centers in the US. It promises next-day shipping to anyone who is close enough to one of these locations that regular shipping will arrive in a day. This covers much of the US, but not all of it.
Of course, next-day shipping has no effect on the time it takes to get the laptop to one of these centers and ship it out from there. -
meh thanks for the help

next-day shipping means they ship it via DHL Express. DHL Express has a 1-6 day delivery window. I spoke with a DHL rep and she said that there is no guarantee that it will be delivered the next business day, however mine did.

my regular shipping got it to me in 3 days. not bad. dhl tracking said it would be delivered 2 days later.
-
i had the next day delivery for free as an 'extra' that the dell rep threw in for me to close the deal. it was shipped on monday and i got it tuesday 1:30 ish
pretty damn fast
p.s. the guy that delivered it drove a chrysler minivan without any dhl decals...lol i was so concerned.."who the hell is this old man coming into my driveway"
i suppose they use private cars for express shipments -
Next day shipping will not get you your laptop any faster is only a waist of your time

Actually in some cases, when they do an upgrade from the standard shipping to "next day" (that is to make up for a long delay etc.) they will ship it via FedEx Standard Overnight service in place of DHL.

I got my shipping upgraded to that and it arrived the day after it shipped. I got it for free and I didn't even ask
next day shipping
