hi guys, does dell do an update after a specified amount of months? i saw the new dell studio 17 but the 15" has not been updated cosmetically. is it coming soon? I saw the ati 4650 in the studio 17 and would want one in the studio 15. does dell normally do updates before Christmas or no update is due?

Dell doesn't seem to have a predictable schedule for much of anything. Until a new Intel platform debuts, I don't think we'll be seeing any new Studio 15 or 17 models.

The recent update to the Studio 17 happpened to the Studio 15 way back in June 2009. At that poiint, the 1537 was replaced by the 1555 which marked the transition from 16:10 to 16:9 aspect ratio dsplays. One of the other major hardware upgrades is the graphics card- the 1537 only had the option of a 256mb ATI Mobility Radeon HD 3450 GPU while the 1555 offers the much more powerful 256-512mb ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4570!

The Studio 17 soldiered on with a 16:10 ratio 17.0" display until only a month or so ago. At that point, the 1735/1737 was replaced by the 17.3" 1745! The 1745 upgraded from the previous ATI HD 3650 to a choice of either the ATI HD 4570 or HD 4650. The original Studio 15 and 17 had only the HD 3450 and HD 3650, respectively.

So the Studio 15 won't see another major revision for quite some time. The changes made to the Studio 17 were simply bringing it in line with many of the design and feature improvements found on the current 1555

The new Studio 1557 has a 1GB 4570 option, DDR3 RAM, the i7 processor, and has only been on the market for less than a month IIRC.

^^ The 1GB 4570 of the Studio 1557 probably wont make that much of a difference though. The i7...now that's a different story.

yeah 1gb wont make much of a difference...but the 1745 has a black bezel just like the new inspirons...the studio 15 doesnt...perhaps they might make a little update just before or after new year...

so, it's basically the same as the new inpirons except with the studio label at the top...these seem quite nice.
