I can't seem to find an option for an 8800 for the 15.4" notebooks, are they ever available as an upgrade? If not is there any hearsay on when Dell's next 15.4" NB with an 8800 will be available? I really need an 8800 for what I intend to do with the computer.

Alienware m15x is currently it, and it has heat related issues. There's a Clevo coming in a few months.

The pure fact is that the 8800 produces too much heat to put into a 15.4 frame without an astonishing cooling system.

Please see the m15x from Alienware. Not that its the best notebook out there, but its the only 8800 right now AFAIK.

There are a few others on the way, but none from Dell.

Darn, I am aware of the M860TU but from what I've read it wont be available until mid July, and I need one for May/Early June preferably :( The m15x is quiet expensive, unsure if I can get a solid system for under $3000.

It's not heat related issues. More of downclocking issues. Check out the Alienware thread if you are unsure of what to config.

I thought the downclocking was due to heat?

It is. The computer gets too hot and that's why it downclocks. That 8800M GTX is such a monster, it's too hot for that little m15x chassis

I don't know why it's so hard to understand this.

    So, visual lesson time:

Alright, in a normal 17" laptop, the heat has more area to dissipate, as well as bigger fans to pull it away. In the m15x, the heat doesn't have as much area, and thus the system gets hotter. When it gets too hot, the computer is smart and downclocks itself so it doesn't burn up.

Alienware released a new BIOS that speeds up the fans, thus, a better cooling solution. However, it's still not enough for everyone.
