    No Com1 In Device Manager

    I Need Help With This Situation Im Not Very Knowledgeable . When I Open Device Manager Thereis No Com1 Or Lpt Port Shown . I Went Into The Bios There Are No Port Listed So I Can Enable/disable . Yet I Have A Parallel Port In The Back . I Need To Use This Port . Is There Anything I Can Do To Get My Port Back . I Tried Add/remove Hardware
    To See What It Found. Nothing . I Have A Dell I6000 . That I Reformatted To Get Rid Of Dell Junk . Everything Works Fine . I Just Needed A To Use The Port And Find Out The Port Missing From Device Mgr. I Really Would Apprecite Anybody And Everybodys Help With This

    You need to look in the bios there would be a section that shows intergrated components make sure that LPT and Serial (COM) are enabled.

    From what I can see on the net, the Inspiron 6000 doesn't have any serial or parallel ports.

    Theres Nothing In The Bios At All To Enable/disable Ports.

    Well that makes sense!


    MATADOR473 the port on the back is probably a VGA output not a Parallel (LPT) port


    Check the following picture I know this isn't your laptop...but the port you have on the back of your laptop is like the blue one in the middle right?

    Purple: Parallel port (LPT)
    Blue: VGA Output
    Green: Serial (COM)

    Yes Exactly . The Blue One . So If I Dont Have A Port There How Can Use Serial Cable. ? Do I Need To Use An Adater To Convert Usb . Is
    This The Only Way .

    Either something like this or a USB to RS232 adapter.

    Yes you need to get a adapter. Radio Shack sells them for like $15
