This article gives you the true painful story about one customer named Guoliang Liu, who comes from the People's Republic of China (mainland). It's the buying

of DELL incorporation' DELL Inspiron 1520 notebook/laptop computer that began this nightmare. After learning the facts of the case, you would get another

different impression about DELL than ever before.

I wish this could give some help to someone, whether she or he would like to buy DELL Inspiron 1520 or not.

    1. Here's the main flows about this event

    a) 03/09/2008 Ordering one DELL Inspiron 1520 on DELL(China) website

    b) 03/10/2008 remitting RMB 8997.30 to DELL opened bank in BeiJing

    c) 03/15/2008 receiving the notebook by DELL qualified express, but just be enforce upon signing without package open permitted to confirm

    2. What's the problem?

After some basic checking, I found that there existed gap measured some millimeter when the upper cover closed proper. The LCD presents contorted

when the upper cover closing. What product quality ! This seems not suit to DELL as one famous comporation in the world. I've ever experienced

IBM ThinkPad T41 and HP/Compaq nx6130 for many years. There's no such thing as the DELL product!

    3. Trying to solve this problem

I reported this problem as soon as possible to DELL (China) customer service and got feed back from a DELL customer service employee. She told me

that there's no any defective with this notebook/laptop at all according to the conclusion issued by one dell SENIOR engineering. Is the DELL official

opinion ? The answer by her is YES absolutely. What nonsense! I was stuned totally and send email again for asking refundment.

Three days later (03/28/2008), one director fro customer service phoned me that the DELL can change the defective component instead of my refundment

requirement. She told me that this the final decision by the DELL (China). Is's shocking that new delivered notebook/laptop need to repair before use it.

    4. What to do next?

Since I was not allowed to check this notebook/laptop before sign (otherwise I would had rejected this one), and rejected to return this product for

a refund, I had determined to accuse DELL (China) of cheating sales to local court. To get my refundment back and apologize, In fact, I'm sure that's

    the only satisfactory way out.

Asking for your support and help, Thanks in advanced!

As a consumer, I know we all demand quality products, and want the most out of our money, but........ there's really an extend to it, especially, if you take into consideration of the Dell's business strategies which is to sell "cheap" computer to households/consumers.

Now imo, millimeter gap between the screen is not that big of a deal, but if it really matters that much to you, get the court order (since you mentioned that they won't do it without authority involvement) and just return it for a refund.

Honestly, Dell is known for cheaper quality; hence the low price. If you are that demanding about quality of the good, you should pay more for it. With the refund, take into considering for you next purchase: a Macbook, an Asus, or just the Dell XPS line would be a step up from general Dell consumer line, and this suggestion is from a Dell Owner, me.

I think the 1520 was designed that way. that gap seems fine. (Comparing to my 1520). it is not meant to close so close that the top lid touches the keyboard/touchpad. that gap is normal.

Does the latch on the laptop work? does it hold the lid shut and click properly?

That gap is perfectly normal. You see that with all notebooks...

All this over the bezel design looking 'unusual' to you, so I understand.

It's perfectly normal, go into a store and look at some of the HP and Toshiba and Apple laptops. I can spot at least 4 mistakes or more on every machine where lines don't align properly and things are crooked and such. I'm a designer and perfectionist, I can spot every mistake due to manufacturing error, poor design judgment and poor engineering.

I paid $76,350.96 for my Dodge Ram sitting out on the door yard but you don't see me bringing it back or stoking the fire, because the bumper hangs 1" below the headlight, resulting in a strange gap (an engineering issue with the bumper mold during manufacturing I assume).. Pretty much as relative as your bone head issue here. Sorry if people find my words here immature, or hurtful but honestly, this is ridiculous.

It's a wonder he ain't complaining that the little button beside his IR remote has a larger gap on the left side then the right side..

I suggest finding better things to write about to improve you're English because these empty accusations are purely a waste of time and peoples time, and the sites bandwidth.
