Can you try to output it to any external screen?

When did you purchase your 1420?? If, you can't fix it..and it's still w/in 21 days of purchase = Call Dell and ask for a replacement.

If not, and your still under warranty..call Dell and have them fix or replace!

    Cin ;) :)

This is happening to my friend's Inspiron 1420 as well. I'm also trying to find a solution and she's not under warranty anymore :(. She says the system still boots up and makes the usual Vista sounds as it starts up but there is no image projected onto the LCD screen--only the backlight to the screen is on with a black, blank image. I'm currently in the process of testing it with an external monitor (she has to go out and buy a cable first though), but if anyone has any idea of what's going on and how to fix this, that'd be great!

If it can output to an external monitor it would be the screen going bad. However it if doesn't then the video card would be faulty.
