Hi all, I just purchased a refurbished Dell Studio 1535 for my GF. I am getting no sound out of the speakers. I tried plugging in external speakers and Im getting the same result. I see the volume icon bouncing up and down when I play things, but there is just no sounds.

Do I have to turn it on?

Please help, I don't have to RMA it and wait even longer.

Seek help from Dell themselves. Dell technical support chat. It may be that your audio is disabled. Right click on the sound icon in the bottom right of your screen and click playback devices. Then right click on speakers/headphones in the new window that pops up. Then check if it says enable, then click enable. If it says disable, then don't click anything, it should be working. That's when you should CHAT with NOT call Dell technical support at their site. Your service tag is on the bottom of your laptop on a white strip. It'll say service tag right next to it. Here's the link for the chat. http://support.dell.com/support/top...t/chat/en/hardware_chat?c=us&cs=19&l=en&s=dhs

imho this is a driver issue. Have you tried scanning your machine on www.driveragent.com to check whether it reports that your sound drivers are outdated?

The latest drivers are installed. I talked with a Dell rep online and I am going to send it in to get the motherboard replaced.

That's crappy you got a bad one right off the bat. Though, once you get it in working condition I think you will be very happy with it.

When I send something back to get it fixed. How quick is the turn around time? If the problem still persists can I get a refund?

You might have been better off just returning it and reordering it. That way you get a fresh notebook.

I thought about that, but this product is already a refurbished one.

Should I just return it and buy a different one?

I got a bad refurb when I ordered my Studio, the screen wouldn't adjust its brightness. It does happen and I just returned it and ordered a new one that day.

Well, if you don't think you can find a similar deal then do an exchange. That is quite a price I haven't seen anything like that before. At least not when I was looking for mine.

It was a good time I guess. The laptop was $529 and at the time there was a 15% off any Studio in the Dell Outlet as well as free shipping. So it came out to be a great deal.

Well, the 15% coupons usually come out every couple of weeks. But I am sure you don't want to wait for them to be released again. I think if you would like to keep your deal you should setup an exchange.
