Looking to place an order for a Dell Inspiron 17R in the UK.

However, I have become aware that Dell do not provide any separate recovery discs, which is a bit of a cheek since you have paid for a licence.

I understand that they now load all recovery software onto the HD. Is it possible to get Dell to provide a separate W8 recovery disc?

What has worked for me in the past has been to call tech support after I got the computer and they've sent me the discs. Try and see if they'll do. It, otherwise I believe it costs like $15(20 something euro?) when you're ordering it .
Sent from my Windows Phone 8X by HTC using Board Express

Dell has an application called the Backup and Recovery Manager which allows you to create your own set of Recovery Discs or Flash Drive (16GB recommended) which is pretty similar to what a lot of PC manufacturers are doing these days. I chose to do the Recovery procedure for the Inspiron 17R on an USB Flash Drive and had no problems.

I'm curious - why does Dell require a 16 GB flash drive when the Windows 8 ISO is only around 3.5 GB?

It likely backups the restore partition, bloatware and all.
