So a friend of mine has a Inspirion 1526 and is having a problem where when you turn the machine on the screen will for the most part not power on.

Not really sure if it is booting because the screen wont display a thing. You can usually see the screen tuen a different shade of black when the back light comes on, but this is not the case. The HD would make a horrible noise at start up when the machine actually does start up. I have removed his HD and am reformating it to see if that might help. On a side note, i installed my old HD and tried installing his OS on it, but it wont do it it. it stops as it about to sart expanding windows files. is that normal?

I just did a complete re-install of his OS and all needed driver about a week ago and he continues to get the blue screen every once in a while.

Not sure if these two problems are related. any help would be appreciated.

What happens if you try to boot it with an external monitor? Does anything show up?

Do you have the equipment to connect the HDD to another machine and test if it works?
