The more I research the more I don't know what to do...

Right now all I have is a Thinkpad w/ 550 Celeron because I bought it as an occasional secondary (mainly just email & web when I travel) computer. I'm looking to spend around $1300 for a new notebook.

Every Dell model I look at I find something else that lots of people are complaining about. Are they that bad now? My brother got a Dell notebook about 2 years ago and it's great. Anyway, I have a desktop for gaming, dvd burning, etc but I'd like to be able to use the notebook more on a regular basis for everything but those 2 things. I'm not too worried about the screen because I have an LCD on my desk that I'll more than likely hook it up to.

I've looked at the D505, the D600, the Inspiron 8600... I know someone w/ a 600m but I'm not so sure I want to go w/ that one. Could I get away w/ integrated graphics? I don't want to go for any of the lower ends that have the fixed drives. If anyone can help please do!!! [?]

Integrated graphics will be perfect for the uses you specified. As for Dell quality, it's okay right now, not terrible, not great.

The Latitude series, since geared for business, will have a more solid build to them....

I would suggest either a Latitude series notebook, or the Inspiron 8600.

Guys... do you know if a 14.1" display on a chassis big enough to accomodate a 15" display looks bad? Just don't know if the frame around it would be way to big. If you can give me some input on this I'd really appreciate. [ :)]

    Hey Stick,

My friend purchased an Inspiron 5150 and he loves it. He got the Mobile P4-3.06Ghz model and he says batter life on it is great. Plus, it comes with a 15" screen. Having a 14.1" screen in a 15" frame will look a bit off. For the best look, you want to have as little border around the screen as possible, just look at the Apple PowerBook, it has probably no more than 1/4" to 1/2" of border and it looks amazing. The more plastic, the more your eyes will get distracted from the screen, in my opinion.
