Well after calling tech support for hours trying to get the right battery they kept transfering me to different lines so I said screw it and Iam returning my inspiron, my plan was to call the return department in hopes that they would resolve my situation but no attempts were made so I guess back it goes.

    go for a Sager 5760 from Powernotebooks.com

its definitely a better notebook for the money.

i've only had good experiences with dell on the phone, but there are other ways to communicate; i.e., email or chat... both of which other users here have had good success with

    good luck

I've also had good experiences with phone and chat. I usually prefer chat now that I have used it a few times since it is much quicker and I can understand what is being communicated plus I have a paper trail that I can save or print.

well heres the story, I bought a scratch and dent system from dell on nov 2, it came on the 8th when I received it, the some trim around the screen and keyboard were not pushed in properly I thought oh well its scratch and dent, also there was a piece of dirt behind the screen as someone didn't take much care in putting it togehter. worse of all the battery was worn out. when I recieved it 4 out of 5 lights would come on the heath meter, indicating it was about wore out, so I called dell, after the technician had me do some tests he said he would send out the battery right away, I thought cool, if dell does this for me I will keep the system! batteries came thurs and they were the wrong batteries for some other dell laptop, not only that but they sent 3! I wish they sent three for the 9400! I got on dellchat and told someguy and he said he would resend the right battery ok I thought. so I called to day to find out about the status of the order and after 3 seperate calls and being on hold for a total of 1:10mins I thought screw it, as I keep being transfered from one person to the other and the last person I couldn't understand her english so I called the return department not really wanting a return but some kind of action or maybe a trade for something different and i got some *****y lady who didn't really care and just wanted to hurry up the return, I tried to exclaim how each department just shoved me around and how could they send the wrong batteries hoping maybe she would offer to get me the right battery and I would keep the system but no, so I guess now UPS is going to pick up the system monday, I will get the full return price right? as the system was from delloutlet which they say has a 21day return and iam still under that?

no outlet computers are 21 days. Also most likely they will give you an exchange but the machine will be a whole new one.

Well I called and they said they could do an exchange but could not guarentee the specifications and that it would take three weeks, she said the best thing would be to return it and reorder another computer so today my 9400 was taken away from me by UPS, Dell better not make a mistake when returning this I really want my money. It really hurts to go back to the GMA 900 and Celeron M after have a Core Duo T2400 and a 7800 Geforce, but i guess I will have to deal with it till I get my money. As far as dell goes I think they build decent computers but there support needs work and I was unsatified with the service I recieved. That said I still think I would be willing to give dell one more try but if they mess up my next order I will most likely be shopping somewhere else like HP where I have credit.
