Hi folks, it's my first post here because untill now this forum was just a resourse of knowledge for me and my english is so bad that I was a litlle afraid to post.
I purchased a xps1330 with a black lid and I'm very satisfied with this notebook. The only thing that was annoying me was the fingerprints that was hard to remove (it's really a pita).
I was thinking that some kind of coating could reduce this trouble and decided to try some kind of car wax (hard type).
Firsrt you'll need to clean it well to remove all traces of oil and just spreaded a little amount of wax with a cloth, wait some time and polish with a clean cloth and voilà! It's now much harder to get fingerprints and also much easier to clean (just use a dry cloath or tissue paper).
It's a easy solution and the results are great! No kidding!
I just wanted to share it with all the other members of this forum. If you get the same result as me (or not) just let me know .

Yes, it's completely safe becouse it's only a wax. So it'll create a coating to in fact protect the paint.
The only thing to take care is to clean completely the lid before aplly it, sometimes I'll need to repeat the process for best results.

Yes, I'm using a natural based wax (karnauba) with no compounds for mettalic paint, because I already used it in my car.

LOL I just did something similar to my Vostro 1500. Instead I used some Johnson Wax which is primarily used to clean Aluminum appliances. I sprayed some on a clean cloth and applied it on the top lid. I let it sit for about 5 minutes.

Then I wiped it off with a soft cloth and presto no more finger prints.

There's your first clue that you're all getting duped. "Hey, guys, this totally works!!! Now do it and let me know if it worked for you, uh, too!!!"

Listen, anyone can come on here and say anything they want. It's an Internet forum. Trust this guy at your own risk and don't come on here whining about how sucky Dell's Customer Service is because they laughed at you for pouring car wax all over your laptop.

I only asked for feedback because I tried it and it worked for me and in a case it not works well, possibly there's a mistake in how it was done(like I said before you need to clean very well the lid ).
It's up to you try it or not, but acuse me to be a lier and falsify what I wrote before is another question. I said just to use a little amount in a cloth like everyone does when polish your car and not to stuck the wax over the lid.

I've used car wax on all sorts of things. It's perfectly safe, it's meant NOT to harm paint and surfaces. I also use 3M surface and scratch remover for clear coat on some of my electronic surfaces to take out any fine scratches.

If you're worried about it, try it in a small spot first.

That's fine, but in the case that it doesn't work what are you going to do? People who come on this forum are apparently totally anal retentive about their laptops to begin with. They yell about the slightest cosmetic defects, they're afraid to clean their screens without asking first, they fuss over sounds that they hear. Then you come along and tell them to put wax on their laptop. And the amazing thing is that these SAME PEOPLE will do it and thank you for the tip. Maybe it works, maybe it doesn't. All I have to say is this is what makes me think a lot of people are either crazy or stupid.

Let's say it works. Then you're awesome, OK? AWESOME. But if it doesn't work someone is going to be sitting at home feeling pretty retarded and then what are you going to do? Apologize? Tell them they did it wrong? And then what? They're going to start bugging Dell and then start raging about it online and so on. Hell if I care, since they chose to do it. However, why should YOU care that I'm pointing out how crazy it is to listen to an anonymous person who is accepting ZERO liability over anything?
