I just got mine m1530 yay but i noticed there rn't covers on the hinge and the part below the speakers does that mean its being used by someone? and i also noticed the a huge gaps that connect the panel to do base of the laptop and a gaps on the side of the hinge where the dell logo is and when i put my nails inbetween the gap it easily gets bigger are these things all natural?

It sounds like a laptop got by the QA department at Dell. You might want to post some screen shots to be sure, but I think you're probably going to want to call Dell and request a replacement.

if i wanted to get it replaced do i have to send in the laptop with or without the stuff (i.e battery) or do i just send in the laptop itself battery free?
-
i swaped in the 9 cell battery and is now charging

What happens is that Dell will send you a replacement, and whatever they end up sending you have to return the old version.
So if they send you a laptop+battery, you return both the old ones. If they send just a laptop, you keep the battery and send the old laptop back. -
I just received mine and the microphone/earphone in front had a plastic protector. I notice a plastic cover/protector on top of the media buttons. No gaps on the hinges. The screen has a bit of "grainy" look to it but after reading the book it has some type of anti-glare. I only notice this under bright lights. The glossy screen glare isn't as bad as the HP models. The HP glossy screens have a lot of glare but the colors are more vibrant.

i received my replacement unit today without the plastic cover also.
it is a completely new one (not refurbished). maybe the new production procedure is to peel off the plactic cover? -

Trust me man. If you are happy with it other wise, like working fine . live with it. Don't go through the exchange . it's hell. I have been doing it for 6 weeks now. next week I will have my 4th laptop and 2 screens ... don't know if they are the right ones yet..
if you had to. then return it and order again. -

mine came without plastic covering and the unit was in perfect condition. I'm with dvm on the exchanges. Sometimes they can be more trouble than they're worth. If you have a funtional system with minor cosmetic issues, it might not be worth the hassle. Then again, you may have a completely smooth transfer.
No plastic cover means a used m1530?
