I was wondering if anyone has a user comment concerning
Dell model 1100 or 5100. I looking for a quiet machine.
Speed is important, so I not so thrilled about throtteling
down the cpu to keep it from running it's fan.
I should ask, are Dell machines capable of even doing this?

The only Dell laptops that offer throttling are the Pentium M and Mobile Pentium 4 chips...

As for the 1100 and 5100 both use desktop Pentium 4's and can get quite warm, so fan use will be more prevalent.

I would not call these fans "quiet" but not outrageously loud....however, they are noticeable.
