If someone / me was able to get their hands on a store bought copy of Windows Media Center as opposed to the version shipped with dell --- would installing that version prevent one / me from having the various issues with Media Center after a clean install?

Last Question for today i promise :D

I'm not sure of what problems you are talking about. If it is related to the MediaDirect issue, you are going to have that no matter what OS system you are using. It is related to doing clean installs.

The only difference between OEM and the retail version is that OEM can only be installed on Dell systems.

What problems were you thinking about?

The problem i was thinking about was the MediaDirect issue, as well as various other little things like the inability to join a Windows Media Denter Equipped Machine to a Domain.

I have figured out how to join a Windows Media Center machine to a domain, so the remaining issue was the MediaDirect problem you spoke about.

The reason i seem so confused is because I have been lost in the apple world for years and years so the Windows issue are brand new to me. I have been spending hours and hours since ordering the Dell trying to learn as much as I possibly can.

    Thanks for the assistance etc...

Like SG said. There is nothing between the OEM and Retail version that will help you with that problem. Save the money. :) The thing with Domain, I think XP Pro will be able to do that, but that is completly a different animal. :p

LOL, its okay. I think we are all confused on the Media Direct issue. I just made a post about how I think the Media Direct issue can be solved.

I don't know if that will work or not, but just knowing how XP works and the way Dell sets up their systems, I think it might work. It is partially my fault cause I told everyone in my Reformatting sticky to delete all the partitions, but this was back when there was only the restore partition.

    Thanks guys....

I get the operating systems free actually from work so I don't have to pay for them... THANK GOD!!!

I also found an article that explains how to connect a Windows Media Center Machine to a Domain.
I just recently installed Media Center on a test Box, actually doing it as we speak...... I am then going to try the various steps in that tutoria and see if it works... If it does work then I am kinda sorta home free...
