I have a Dell Inspiron 1501 running XP. I'm having a problem with my keyboard.

Every time I type something, instead of the keyboard keeping up with me letter for letter as I type, the cursor falls behind me 6 or 7 letters! It never used to do that and now all of a sudden it's doing it. It also does it if you want to delete words or letters again falling behind. This sucks!

How do I correct this? I went into the keyboard settings, and under speed all they have is "repeat delay" (I have on short) and repeat rate (I have on fast) and neither does anything to correct it? My cursor still falls behind me as I type (and I'm not a fast typer!)

Please help me correct this before I go crazy!!

When did you first notice it doing this? What have you installed since. I don't think it is a setting but rather an issue with your system.

I noticed it after I got a virus. My virus software supposedly "contained" it and placed it in "quarantine."

I decided for that reason (and a few others) to reformat and reload XP. After a reinstall of XP, the problem continues.

Now I don't know what to do? I thought maybe I needed to upgrade XP to Vista and maybe then the problem would go away??

    Not really sure though?

    :(

If the problem persisted through OS installs it might be a hardware problem. What you could do is try a Linux live CD and see if you have any lag while using that.

Ok, I'll try that. If I don't have any problems with the Linux CD what does that mean, and what should I do next? And if I do still have the problem, then what?

    I REALLY appreciate your help!

    :)

If it works fine, then there is a software issue at hand. At that point I would consider running a tool such as DBAN on the hard drive to completely wipe it and do a fresh install of the OS. And then carefully start reinstalling drivers as there might be a conflict.
