I apologize for this question to some of you who are more techy, but hang with me. So I have ordered my first notebook from Dell, got an XPS M1530 at a pretty good deal. One of the options I had to make a decision on was the screen, and I opted for the new LED LCD option at the 1440x900 resolution. My order has since been delayed to what the Dell reps describe in their emails to me as an "LCD industrial shortage".

My question is, am I correct in stating that the LED has nothing to do with the delay, its the actual LCD portion of the display? I see a lot of threads on here with people getting higher resolution, non-LED displays who are also getting delays. Did I make a good choice with the LED? Will my screen be an LG?

Thanks for the assistance, these boards are keeping me sane during my long wait.

The only way to know if selecting an LED display would delay shipping would be to look under the description. With any DeLL add-on it will tell you below the item. "This Item May Delay Shipping". The only way to know if the LED panel is holding up your order is to call DeLL customer service and ask.

I own standard displays but from what i've read LED panels do look nice, are brighter and consume less power than your typical flat panel display.

They only way to find out if you have an LG display is to call DeLL customer service and ask. Now is the time to do it since your lappy has not shipped yet. Keep in mind changing your order now could further delay your order.

Thanks Rodknee. I did confirm with Dell that the LCD was the issue, not the LED unit. I will give Dell a call about the LG question. I didn't even have to ask and Dell upgraded my shipping from 3-5 standard to next day (since my ESD was today). Thats pretty nice. I am going to be nervous till I get it though, just my luck something will be wrong.

The LED LCD is one part... If the delay is because of the LCD then it's also because of the LED...

So the delay is because you selected the LCD with LED.

As for the LG, so far the only LED screen available on the M1530 is made by CHI MEI.

You the man Rhodan. Hope Chi Mei is not part of the grainy display issue.
