The last time I called Dell Canada to check my order status I was told to check to phone back August 31st. Dell was suppose to recieve a shippment of delayed parts on August 31st. So, I call today and am told that my order should be shipped out by September 4th and I would recieve it in around 5 days. I ordered my Inspiron 1720 on July 19th and as of the 20th it was supposedly finished the pre-production stages.

I just recieved a call from Dell. My order, placed on July 19th 2007, which was suppose to ship (most recent ESD of September 6th) has been delayed BIG TIME! The call says, "Due to unforseen marketing and manifacturing contraints your order will resume production NO EARLIER THAN SEPTEMBER 24TH."

I guess they don't have parts. Don't get your hopes up.

AN AMAZING 12 WEEKS AFTER ORDERING MY LAPTOP WILL STILL BE BEING BUILT....

DELL IS A HORRIBLE COMPANY. They can't offer me anything. No overnight, no credit, nothing. SO MUCH FOR HAVING A LAPTOP. I GUESS A MONTH AND A HALF WASN'T TIME ENOUGH TO GET IT WHEN I NEEDED IT. YOU NEED AT LEAST THREE.

    THERE IS NO HOPE.

July 19th to Sept 24 is only two months, not three?

Either way - that sucks. I ordered on the same date and was getting the runaround too... mine just went into boxing, but I had been planning to shop around this weekend for a non-dell laptop.

I'd ask for compensation for the delay. They will give you something. I didn't ask for compensation at first figuring I knew there was a wait - but after the second delay I starting asking for stuff. I ended up with free overnight shipping after one delay and a $50 credit after another delay.

I am taking into account the extra month after the 24th of September before I will see my laptop. Dell Canada won't give anything out. I am always firm but not rude and they always say they cannot offer anything and are sorry for any inconvience.

Well that sucks - they won't give you anything, even free overnight shipping?

    I'm sorry.

At this point Dell ought to just offer the notebook for free...at this point, their credibility on shipments has dropped way too low...

I'm dreaming, but maybe we'll start seeing 'if we don't ship within 30 days, your purchase is on us' ads...
