Whenever I try to ghost my HD and chose USB2.0 drivers, it hangs at "Assigning drive letters". I can use 1.1 drivers ok (but it only sees my FAT32 partition on my USB drive, not my NTFS partition).

Any ideas why the 2.0 drivers never work?

Oh, and am using Ghost 2003 with all of the latest updates.

Have you tried seeing what happens if you just load Ghost without any additional drivers? My Ghost 8.0 has worked fine on many different laptops' USB connections just by itself.

I have. It sees nothing that way. Not my CD drive or my USB drive. And just loading CD drivers still gives me no USB.

Speaking of which, is 8.0 a later release or is 2003 the latest. Maybe I just need to get a newer version?

    2003 is newer than 8.0.

Do you have USB Emulation enabled in your BIOS?

Sure do. I basically have USB on, WiFi, BT and the rest off. Tried every legacy setting I could find too.

I will try this when I get home.

I am also reading that I may need to have USB emulation actually turned off since it can conflict with G2003. Interesting...

And just a general comment, it's sad that it cannot see NTFS. have a FAT32 partition and an NTFS one, but I just hate that 32GB limit; sometimes the backups just wont fit in...

The external hard drive I use with Ghost 8.0 is one big NTFS partition, and I've never had a problem with Ghost recognizing it.

I think it might be your version of Ghost. Do you have a Firewire drive and computer you can test it on?

Yeah, my USB drive is also Firewire, and I had the same issues.

I just tried my combo external drive on my E1705's USB with Ghost 8.0, and it detected the NTFS partition on the external drive by itself with no problem.

Ok, I'll see what I can do with another version of Ghost tonight.

Is 8.0 bootable just as 2003 was? So I can dump the whole drive out of the OS?

I made a DOS 7 (98SE) boot disk for it myself that works great. All you need is the GHOST.EXE file from a Ghost 8.0 CE installation.

    My CONFIG.SYS is:

    and AUTOEXEC.BAT is:

I usually run Ghost without any options with no problems.

So, I turned off USB emulation last night:

BOOM, I get USB 2.0 drivers loaded and D:\ is my FAT32 drive. Well, at least that wokrs I think to myself. I go into Ghost, and BOOM, my NTFS drive is listed (not lettered, but NTFS 2:2) and I am suddenly able to Ghost to it.

    Thanks for all the help!!!

Glad to help out gohanssjn! [IMG]

That's strange you had to turn off USB Emulation to get it to work. Guess it must have to do with the external USB DOS drivers.

Has anyone tried running this Ghost stuff from a USB thumb drive?

I spent the good part of a couple of days trying to get this to work, using various USB DOS drivers out there, and everytime, when the USB DOS drivers loaded, the boot would either stop (hang) or the rest of the config.sys would stop loading stating something like "invalid command at line xx" and command.com would never be found.

It's convenient to have it all on a USB thumb drive, but since it is also a USB device, it seems to only mess things up!

    Anyone get it working?

    Thanks.

Well, here is my take on that:

You need USB emulation on to boot from USB, but I had to turn USB emulation off to boot Ghost correctly. Seems to me I could never do what you wanted too. Sorry.
