Sorry to make 2 threads so quickly, but since it's different issues, I might as well. The speakers on my vostro 1500 seem to be much weaker than they were when new, just 1 month ago. I used to be able to hear fine with the sound at only 3 bars, and turning it up all the way would blast music across the room easily. Now I cant hear it well across the room, and with some movies, it has to be turned up all the way to hear the audio. What's wrong with it? And no, my hearings not going either...

Check the Sound Properties in Vista and make sure you have not reduced the volume in it....

Oh, I just checked the sigmatel audio thing, and volume controls for everything was maxed, but the sound under the "wave" thing was set at the minimum settings. I just turned it up and it's much louder now. Was that the default setting? What is "wave"?

Usually sound cards contain many different sound hardware devices in them.... One of them is the Wave device which is responsible for reproduction of almost all sound you hear from the speakers.... Another such device is the MIDI Software Synthesizer for reproducing musical notes and stuff... All .MID and .MIDI files are played back using the Synthesizer only.... I hope that was helpfull ;)

Yeah. It's much better now, back to before. I don't know how it got turned down down to the lowest setting in the first place. I'd never done anything to it before.

Sometimes programs like dvd players and media applications can change your volume settings for you.
