Anyway, I'm about (in an hour or so), to seal the deal on an E1705 with the following specs:
    T7200,
    7900 gs,
    160gb@5400rpm,
    1gb@667Mhz,
    9 cell,
    back pack,
the "expenssive" display (WUXGA or whatever..),
    dvd rw

that's about it, its going to come out to ~$1750 after using the $450 coupon.
So, if you have something to say about it PLEASE say it NOW, or forever hold your peace. I'm going to be monitoring this thread for the next hour or so, and then... :)

more specific about the screen plz.

whats the res? is it ultra sharp and true life?
also if you plan on running vista with all the bells and whistles and you can affourd it then upgrade to 2gb RAM, you wont regret it.

It's the $149 upgrade one, it doesn't say which res.
hang on a sec. I'll check it and edit the reply.

Edit: it says - 17 inch UltraSharp™ Wide Screen UXGA Display with TrueLife™ [add $149 or $5/month1]
    Dell UltraSharp Quality

    Is this ok??

I still find it expensive. Maybe it is better to wait for the Santa Rosa.

Well, it is alot of money, but my opinion is that this laptop is one of the best values for your $$$ overall.
I need the laptop now, so I'm not going to wait for Santa Rosa. Besides SR is going to be more expenssive to begin with, and how shall I put it "unexperienced" which means it might be a little buggy, though I'm sure all the bugs will be worked out, and eventually it'll be a great platform, but there will be a new one right around the corner, and then what..?

Anyway, is the screen I'm talking about is the "good" one?

yes the screen is the "good one". I just got my 1505, and i was in a position to wait, but i figured there will be some bugs etc, so i chose to buy it now, very happy with it as i upgraded the screen harddrive, wireless card etc...I am sure Santa Rosa will be much more money, so if it what you want go for it and enjoy!!!!!!!

I have one suggestion for you and it is too make the 1GB RAM only 1 DIMM instead of 2 DIMMS. This will make it easier to upgrade in the future if you feel like doing so. And have fun with your purchase.
