I noticed that after using my 1530 this morning that my hands ached, similar to the feeling after being shocked with 110v outlet. I powered my 1530 back on and touched the brushed aluminum palm rests and I got a tingling electrical feeling in my fingers. Thought, I'd share to see if any other owners have experiened this on their 1530. Logging into Dell XPS chat to talk with a rep.

There are other posts about this. Apple's Macbook Pros do this too. It may be a problem with the grounding of the wiring in your location. If your wiring doesn't have a proper ground, using a three prong plug may not solve this. I don't think it's dangerous. I'm sitting with mine right now, and I find the electrical stimulation exhilirating. :)

I thought about a three prong plug but it still demonstrates the problem on battery only. :/

Try lifting your feet off the ground. I bet the sensation goes away.

Hehe, Probably not a good long term solution though :)

Damien Green @ Dell Tech sent me a 3 pronged one in 24hrs after I addressed this with them yesterday. 1530 got damned warm and the voltage was enough to be uncomfortable.

That said, it's been blue screening since which I'm just rolling back some drivers to troubleshoot.

Not to hijack the thread, but I had one blue screen on bootup. I saw a bunch of entries in event viewer referring to Roxio. I uninstalled all Roxio software and so far so good.

I hope the three prong adapter helps the OP, at least while it's plugged in.

Interesting. I also noticed that the 1530 runs warmer than my 1520 too (understable for the performance in a slimmer notebook). The electric tingly feeling is indeed uncomfortable as you mentioned.

I have opted to send the 1530 back. After the crappy screen (Dell sent a replacement, which was actually a really good replacement screen), the touchpad freaking out after opening the lid and now this electricity leaking phenomena, it was the third strike. With the leaking voltage on the palm rest, the notebook is unuseable, and the spring semester starts next week. The more I use the 1530 the more I love my 1520. Thus, the 1530 is being returned and I'll use the 1520 another semester and see what's available next Fall.

It happens on any surface, I can be sitting in my chair with my legs up too - still feel the voltage.

I've noticed this with mine as well. I don't find it uncomfortable, just weird. It's not constant and at this point, It hasn't been bad enough for me to call and complain to dell about it yet.

I'm in the same boat. Though I think this happens to all the laptops ( as the original 1530 and the replacement for screen issue both had this issue ) and it maybe that most people haven't noticed/cared enough for it.

    I checked my M1530 with a voltmeter
.025 VAC with unit off and unplugged
.035 VAC with Unit on via battery
.050-.085 VAC Unit powered via AC
    AN annoyance maybe,but harmless.

Wouldn't any voltage the laptop side of the power adaptor be running DC?
The internal components are all running DC aren't they?
So any leakage should be DC?

There was no reading for either 2mA dc or 200mv dc the lowest settings on my voltmeter.

We aren't talking about the Direct current to operate the internals,my readings verify that there is a slightly higher level of current (VAC) present when using the power supply than with battery power,at the palm rest, which is no surprise since its Aluminum.

Three Prong arrived today, and as expected is fine.

Have just formatted disk to install Vista Clean ( minus aforeindicated bloat like Roxio, McAfee, et al) and seems to be fine now.

I'll feel better later when all drivers are updated, Office 2007 and FM2008 are on as must have apps for the road... :D

I think I will call Dell and see if they will send me a 3 pronged power cord. I don't need it but just like the idea of having it. I actually have one of those belkin travel surge protectors which is 3 pronged and shows if I'm grounded, I just plug into that.
