I just got approval to mail in my computer and have my video card replaced on my Dell M6300 Precision via the Nvidia Settlement--has anyone bothered following through with this or are they too afraid of having their computer butchered?

Some people have had good luck to sending their lappy into Dell's Depot for repair, others haven't. It's really a 50/50 situation. When, my XPS 1530 was having GPU issues, at one point Dell wanted me to send it into Depot for repair (even though I had CC Warranty)!...but I was firm and refused (didn't like the idea of them handling my lappy). After going back and forth w/them they finally decided to just replace my lappy.

Sent in my out of warranty M1330 on Saturday and got it back today. Motherboard (with nvidia GPU) was replaced. It was very hassle free and I'm surprised it was repaired so quickly.

I was banking on the process taking the whole 5-6 weeks, so I purchased another laptop (Alienware M11x) to tide me over. I now have a perfectly working M1330 on my lap and an M11x (that I don't need) en route.

just got my Vostro 1400 back from Dell.
the temps climb to 89 while playing games.
its just a new copy of the same junk board and will go bad in a few months same as the old one.

I recently had my XPS M1530 Replaced with a XPS 1502X. It's pretty sweet.
I kept having issues with the video card, and overheating. I had the motherboard, LCD screen, RAM, AC adapter, and heat sink replaced several times with no luck in having it fixed. The last time it was replace was the middle of February, the Technicia replaced the moterboard, LCD, and heatsink and the computer would only show a grey screen when turned on. We called Dell and they wanted me to send the computer to a depot but I've had freinds who have sent their stuff to depots and it either comes back the same or worse. After going back and forth with the Dell guy about a replacement and him not budging, I asked for a supervisor, I was put on hold and a few minutes later I was told my exchange had been approved. On March 9th I received my brand new XPS 1502X, I couldn't be happier with it, there were a few hiccups at first but it all worked out a few days later.

Didn't you have to send the M1530 back before they OK'd the replacement? Have you still got both machines?

Got mine back a few days ago. I sent it off on the March 8th got it back on the 25th. Someone told me after the first week that it was ready and just waiting to be shipped by the following monday. I called in on monday night and someone else said "we don't even have that part in just yet, so you're laptop's still waiting to be repaired" so I wasn't happy. They replaced my MLB (motherboard?) and my 7900 GS. They also replaced my battery (which had long since lost any holding power) and my charger cable (which was slightly frayed but still working) for FREE.

Now it works like a charm. Might even look into upgrading it to 4GB of RAM since E1705s can do that apparently.

I was wondering if you guys know your "repairs" are probably just more defective stuff and are probably going to fail again soon as before.

are you doing the temp tests ?

i just posted this at SD forums

I know its not news to alot of people but some of you guys seem
strangely content with your temporary fix.

someone point me to the "getting things done at DELL" thread?

    "fight back against DELL
where is the forum for rabble rousing against DELLS sham "repair".
I advise you people to download the GPU tool from
Index page • The Nvidia Defect Forum
theres a wealth of info there if you're not up on the matter, but its a UK site
so alot of the discussion doesnt apply to USA victims.
as well as the benchmark util and watch your temps rise ABOVE MFGR SPECS.
its obvious that Dell replaced with more defective parts and these repairs will fail.
Dell has not fulfilled their obligation to properly repair my Vostro and i want something done about it.
My call to Dell a moment a ago seems like a stonewall and he referred me to an
email addy for "escalation". However it feels to me like a circular path right back to
    mr.stonewall himself.
does anyone have phone numbers and/or their directory , presidents office etc.?
perhaps a guide for getting things done from Dell?

apparently theres a big push to challenge the settlement for the HP people etc but am not hearing what is being done about Dells shelling out more of the same. "

also has anyone ..an expert perhaps already published an expert opinion
on the safety hazards of chips that run at high temps as these GPU ?

it seems to me that they are not only fire hazard but also a source of
small amounts of toxic fume from excessive temps to the solder metals and plastics..

also there is nothing in the manual that suggests these cannot be used
while naked. I would suggest that anyone that gets a leg burn while gaming in their undies file a complaint with consumer safety agencies.
(isn't there a new one out there?).

it's important i think that we all get together to pool our power as consumers to get this fixed. if theres a site or forum gathering for this purpose please let me know cause i want to be there.

    dellduude say's:

Yeah, my 'repair' lasted two weeks. Dell Latitude D830n. Sent it in on March 3, and it was returned on March 10. FedEx picked it up the second time yesterday morning. After I got it back the first time it also ran hotter than before. The refurbished MLB now has the chip epoxied to the board (as if that's gonna help) and of course the latest BIOS which causes the fan to run on high. I can't even get the volume high enough to cover up the hissing from the fan.

Got looking through my original paperwork and discovered my warranty runs next month on April 28th, so this repair is still covered, plus I should also have the additional 'extended 1 year' (or whatever they called it) yet.

No I didn't have to send it back befor they Ok'd it. I received my replacement computer and had had 10 days to send it back, I took longer than that because they didn't send the postage for it, I called a couple of times and their techs told me it had come with the computer and I just left it alone until they started calling me, at which point the sent me a postage and I sent it back. If they're telling you otherwise I would argue with them about it until they do it your way.

    Just wanted to update:

My computer was repaired in what seems to be original working order. Only took a month to repair (lol).

Major issues were: laptop screen would randomly turn on and off (even though it worked fine while connected to an external monitor), artifacting/system hangs in certain areas running (Wow) as well as complete crashes running anything else newer. Additionally it was experiencing the nv4_disp.dll infinite loop error.

From the letter, the GPU (Nvidia Quadro 3600M) and motherboard were replaced. Additionally I noticed the battery unit was different (newer, with power gauge led).

No comments on the replacement GPU and motherboard--as I imagine it was just replaced with a new board that will likely share the same defects. However, I've since upgraded laptops, so this machine will never be pushed that hard in any case.
