The buttons are impossible to use unless outside where there is enough light to show up the buttons, however in the dark there is no way that anyone can see the touch sensitive buttons without using a torch. Is there a way, either in a driver update or bios update, in which the buttons can be kept lit up or perhaps can all be lit up for a few seconds by pressing FN+ a button on the keyboard? Its really annoying cuz u just cant see them! Please help!

LOL, I was wondering about the same issue for my Studio but never could gather the courage of posting a question as most likely its impossible...but you are dead right, you do need a torch...else you will eject a running disk when all you wanted was to increase the volume :)

Secondly is it even possible to disable them completely (at least temporarily). I have a lot of finger marks all over that top area and everytime I want to polish that area, I end up creating a lot of confusion. (Worst is that MD4 button which will start up the laptop without any intention of doing so by me)

I was honestly thinking of the same thing, it should be linked with the back-lit keyboard function. Post the idea on Dell's Ideastorm website. Even better email or call a Dell service tech. I know it's possible since HP and Toshiba laptops have the same kind of buttons but they're always turned on.

As for the fingerprints aren't so much of a problem for me on that region, I have a no eating food while using the laptop policy.

Really good idea of linking with back lit function....Hope a future BIOS update can do this :)

Hey, I too don't eat food while on laptop but I sure don't sterilize my hands before using either :)

^^^you are right....I overlooked the fact that only MD4 home button works while the laptop is shutdown.

I took Sebastian's advice and already logged this idea at Dell' idea storm portal....everyone go and promote it there :)
