is there anyway to install a 64bit copy of vista from dell or microsoft? all of the good m1530 deals (up to $750 off) come with 4gb of ram and it feels like the 750mb that isn't being seen in 32bit is going to waste :x

You need to get a 64bits DVD by any way (torrents, order from microsoft, download fro microsoft's hidden download link, lent from a friend ect....) and use the key on the back of the laptop

Typically the OEM key will only be for the version installed with the laptop - so if it's a 32bit version, downloading (by any means) a 64 bit version won't work. Only the retail box keys will activate both 32 and 64 bit versions.

If you're still in school or affiliated with a higher-education organization, you may be able to get something through an MSDN-AA account.

The key under your laptop is unused when you get it, the recovery DVD uses Dell's master key. You can use Orev's little software too.

Really??? That's good news. Now I can actually seriously consider installing the 64 bit version of Vista Ultimate on my system. The cost of a new OEM 64bit lisence was really holding me back.

when i ordered my m1530, i got 32bit ultimate. as soon as it arrived, i called dell and asked to exchange the 32b version for the 64b version--> no problem as long as i promptly returned the 32b version. Now some people would have made a copy/image of the 32b ultimate disk b4 returning it- but not muah.... :p
Got the 64b ultimate in the mail 2 days later :)
