    Next month we should see a couple of new hardware releases from Dell. A new Axim Pocket PC will be released and also an Inspiron notebook that will be of a desktop replacement style with a large screen. There's a couple of mobile media shows taking place in October...the TechX NY on October 4 and the CTIA show in San Francisco at the end of the month so we might here more about the new Dell's at these times.

    We can't comment on that directly. However, I find your guess to be very interesting.

    so it looks like we might be getting a pocket pc and a notebook with a 17" screen? that is not very exciting for me. I really like the idea of a notebook with 14" - 15" widescreen, a Pentium M processer, and a good video card, basically the dell 8600. I just want an updated 8600 or a new notebook similar to this. It seems like there is a lot of interest in something like the 8600. Even a 8610, with a case that is similar to the 700m (which also reminds me of the case for the new Nintendo DS, look it up and tell me if i am crazy) I would be happy with something like this. Hopefully I do not need to wait until long into 2005.....

    Wistron lands notebook orders from Dell, LCD TV orders from Toshiba
    -------------------------------------------------------------------
    Wistron reportedly has landed orders for a 14.1-inch screen, two-spindle notebook from Dell, with volume shipments to begin at year-end at the earliest, according to market sources.

    Wistron is likely to ship 30,000-40,000 units of the widescreen notebook to Dell per month, the sources added. However, Wistron declined to confirm the report, citing client confidentiality.

    Dell’s new 14.1-inch model will compete against the recently launched Hewlett-Packard (HP) 14.1-inch Pavilion dv1000 and Presario V2000 notebooks, the sources noted.

    With the new orders, Wistron is likely to become one of three major notebook contract makers for Dell in 2005, joining Quanta Computer and Compal Electronics, said the source.

    Wistron started shipping 12.1-inch Inspiron 700m widescreen notebooks to Dell in July and will begin delivering two value notebooks, in 15- and 15.4-inch screen sizes, to Dell by year-end.

    In related news, the Chinese-language Commercial Times reported yesterday that Wistron has landed orders for 30-inch LCD TVs from Toshiba. The new orders came after Wistron shipped about 400,000 LCD TVs, in 14- and 20-inch sizes, to Toshiba in the first half of this year, the paper said.

    For the purpose of testing the market, Toshiba ordered just several thousand units of the 30-inch LCD TV from Wistron, the report said.

    I would really like to see a 13 or 14 incher, maybe under 6 pounds, that has a good graphics chipset. Sony has a tiny one with a MR 9700, a 9600 in that package would have my money.

    GPU cooling (100°C->75°C)* Inspiron 8600 * 1.8ghz Pentium M * 128 MB Radeon 9600 Pro Turbo (337/242 -> 400/300) * 2x512 MB DDR2700 SDRAM * Aquamark 3: 24058 * 3DMark'03: 3404 * 3DMark'01 SE: 13120

    that is exactly what I want, a computer that is under 6 or 7 pounds, a 13-14 inch widescreen with a good graphics card. seems doable to me, and should be a little cheaper than a 8600. for me, the 700m would be perfect with a better graphics card. something just like a 700m with a better graphics card will have my money.

    The 700m has a 90% keyboard. I want 100% size.
